My water is soft with a ph of 9. I am thinking about adding some lactic acid to the sparge water to see if this will help boost my efficiency and get a better wort. Has anyone tried this?

I have. Shouldn't take very much with soft water. Make sure you stir well and take pH readings. Too much lactic and you will taste it. You may want to consider phosphoric acid to avoid the lactic twang. Better yet, use CaCL.
