A tale of two BC and pHDI assessments for Briess 2-Row Brewers malt

This is (to my knowledge, subject as always to correction) the sum total of generally available within the public domain data for arguably one of the most commonly used malts in the USA, and it clearly indicates just how poor and scant such data really is. If it is this bad for such a popular malt, imagine how bad it is for malts (etc...) of lesser popularity.

Other data exists in relatively good (but still inadequate) quantity for pHDI alone, but I must strongly emphasize that pHDI data without accompanying BC data is meaningless and thereby useless.

Analyst #1, Bies:
pHDI = 6.00
BC = 57.2 mEq/Kg._pH

Analyst #2, Geurts:
pHDI = 5.55
BC = 46.2 mEq/Kg._pH

Lets 'math model' DI water mash 1 Kg. of this malt using both of these vastly differing data sets whereby to determine the mEq's of acid required to move 1 Kg. of this malt to a targeted mash pH of 5.40.

Delta-pH = mEq's/(BC x Kg.) [Whereby for 1 Kg. the Kg. variable drops out]

Analyst #1, Bies:
mEq's of Acid = (6.00 - 5.40) x 57.2
mEq of Acid = 34.32

Analyst #2, Geurts:
mEq's of Acid = (5.55 - 5.40) x 46.2
mEq of Acid = 6.93

The mEq error between them is nearly at a magnitude factor of 5.

There is clearly zero correlation here by which a software programmer (or anyone else) can validly equate these two data sets for this popular malt whereby to properly set up a mash pH assistant program to properly mimic/model this specific malt. And such data is easily as bad or worse for the scant few remaining malts, grains, etc... that actually have such public domain data. And there certainly is no combined BC and pHDI data available at all for many multiple hundreds of malts, flakes, torrefieds, unmalted grains, Caramels, Crystals, etc... out there for the consumer to purchase for incorporation into their homebrew recipes.

So what does the mash pH assistant software programmer do?

And what else does the programmer do?
1) Fess up and admit that adequate and valid data simply doesn't exist. (or)
2) Continually add more grist component selections to their software whereby to both impress and mind-bogglingly baffle the totally unawares software end user as to the amazing precision that such an overwhelming number of specific choices must bring to the software.
