Hey Everyone,
I've been on this site for years, but the last three I've been away from brewing. Very quickly, I moved from Southern NJ to Florida in 2017 (way more involved than expected). Once I got here I brewed a few batches with my brother in my cooler/blichmann kettle/bucket fermenter cobbled together brewery, and we had varied results. In hind sight I think the problem was that we started drinking from the word go, so by the time we were into the boil we were pretty sauced. After a few batches I called it quits, mainly because we were screwing the pooch sort of speak, but really I was heavy into procuring all the gear to build an electric brewery.
I swear, I'm trying to keep this short! Anyway, and yeah...I'm pretty luck, I stumbled into a home with a garage that's 1800 square feet of all mine. I'm into woodworking, and that was the major thrust of my first few years working into my space. So, a summer of hiking in 2018, and a full knee replacement last year, I'm finally beginning the phase of building the brewery (there will be pictures). But let me say this part first...I do have a pretty significant character flaw, which is I'm a one-at-a-time hobby sort of guy. Oh, I'm all in when I'm doing it, but I leave no room for something else while I'm doing my woodworking 110%. I'm trying to fix that part, but at 59 it's looking like I'll lose that battle.
Okay, picture above is the side of the garage I've spent the last few years building. Nothing was there (worth mentioning) when I got there, which was good actually...a blank slate. Behind me from the vantage point was another 2/3rds of garage real estate, and that's where this comes in.
Over the last few weeks I pulled off all the shelving and crap that I had lining this side of the garage, and I'm painting the walls in preparation of a 12' x 10' spraybooth room with an electric brewery nestled between that and the far wall. The white opening is where the spray booth room will be, and where the BREW! letters are is where I will have an 8' long brew bench.
I've already got a double sink set up in the corner, and I have almost all the equipment I need (3 blichmann 20 gal kettles, control panel, hood and fan, all the rest really)
So I thought it was time I put this out there. I will try to update this post as I go. My son (Philly cop) is flying down to help me build the room in early November, then I side the outside of said room with the same T1-11 that I used behind my bench, and drywall the inside. Once that is done it'll be on to building the bench for the brewing equipment and hopefully I'll be electric brewing by February or March.
One last note, I have all my old equipment out (the cobbled together stuff) and I plan to start brewing in the next few weeks, along with this build project. That's asking a lot from a one at a time project guy, but I'm going to give it my best!
Thanks for reading, Go Eagles!
