I was hoping to to double check my cord length before moving to a new rental property, where I may or may not have to run a very long 10gauge wire from the laundry room to the garage.

I currently use 5500watt elements (only using 1 at a time right now) with a hosehead controller and 8' of 10 gauge SJEOOW (https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/cable10.htm). I might be moving to a house where the the laundry room (i.e., 240v outlet) is far from the garage (where our brewing would be) and may need to run a 100-200ft cord.

Online calculators show the voltage loss isn't too bad, about 2% at 100 feet at 23amps. Wanted to gut check that this was in the ballpark and not affect things to terribly much.

http://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html?material=copper&wiresize=3.277&voltage=240&phase=dc&noofconductor=1&distance=100&distanceunit=feet&amperes=23&x=74&y=22

This is what I get from my spreadsheet I made probably 10 years ago. It is a little higher than the calculator (not sure who is correct). Even at 200' its not bad. I just would not want to lug around a 100-200' extension cord or pay for it;) I would look for other options if possible.

200 feet of 10 ga  ...You brewin in your garage or your neighbors garage. Wheres the breaker box? FWIW I use a 25 ft 10 ga extention cord that works fine

You should seriously consider an alternative location to brew.

Your really going to spend like $400-500 on a 200 foot cable?

Thanks all for the responses - 200' was definitely an extreme, hoping to get away with 50' reasonably. Laundry right next to the garage would be ideal, but may not be able to get it.

Temporary living situation until buying though, then I can just run my own 240v out to the garage.
