I just took the first SG reading of the India Black Ale. I sanitized (starsan) my siphon, hydrometer, around the airlock, and my hands. Drew out a test sample. The SG reading is 1.016. The ABV is now at 5.25%. Then i tasted the sample.
If you can imagine a HUGE RONALD McDONALD SMILE :ban: OR A KID IN A CANDY STORE FOR THE 1st TIME ....THAT IS ME RIGHT NOW!!! I made beer, and it's good (a 1st brew kinda good). It tasted very similar to a India Black Ale. So, after i got control of my excitement, i added the aroma hops (for dry hopping).
I'll take another SG reading on Wednesday, then another next Saturday. If the readings are the same, I'll bottle next Saturday.

If i wasn't hooked like a fish before, I'm definitely hooked now. I look forward to test tasting the Robust Porter in a couple of weeks.

it's a slippery slope, bro.. a slippery slope! good luck - and start to enjoy better beer than you can ever buy!

Thank you all. I'm still in excitement mode. I'm currently pricing materials to build a fermentation cooler. I've seen some really great ideas in the DIY forum.

Glad it worked out for you now lets hear about your plans for your next brew day---you know its coming!!!

Drink up!!!

I'm looking forward to bottling day. Congrats to you too mumume.
I'm planning on two more brews in a couple of weeks. So far I've brewed a India black ale (1st brew) and a Robust Porter (2nd brew). Any suggestions on my 3rd & 4th brews?

Try something a bit lighter, maybe an irish red ale (one of my faves!) Or maybe an amber ale.

Michael, that is awesome! I'm ordering my first starter kit today and your post has me more excited than I was!! Hopefully I'll have the same great first batch!

Started my first batch a few days ago and it's fermenting nicely now.... How do you guys stop yourselves from opening that bad boy up and taking readings every day!?!? Haha

Congrats on your batch. Yes, it is very difficult not to open the lid. I admit, I did look at the airlock 20 times a day, lol.
I'm having more patience with my 2nd batch.
