best time to swap blowoff tube out for airlock

I brewed for the first time in forever and I'm ENJOYING hearing the bloop-bloop of my blow off tube. It says, "You didn't screw up (yet)!" ;-)

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

I'm an artist posing as an IT guy (gotta make money for home brewing somehow), so viewing the home brewing thing as art and science is easy for me. My wife is also an artist, so I think that helps her understand my passion for it. :-)

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

Thankfully, I was able to turn my wife into a beer snob just like me before I decided to take up the home brewing hobby. She's been really supportive (as we both are of each of our millions of hobbies), and it's great because she can get excited about each batch along with me. :-)

    Just moved to Southern California

It's about an hour drive (more in traffic), but if it becomes necessary there's a homebrew store in north Long Beach. I never went (I started home brewing after I moved back to New York), but I know people that went there.

    First Brew a Bit Hoppy

Popped open another bottle last night to test it, and the difference really is amazing! It's still hoppy, but it's definitely mellowed out since the first week. I can imagine by this time next week it'll be even better!

    wow i haate my life

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who was disappointed by the taste of their first batch and that the disappointment was just brought on by impatience. :-) I'm nearing week two of having my brew bottled and I'm looking forward to seeing how it's progressed since week one. And I...

    Newbie needs advice

In agreement on this. I just recently finished my first home brew and I used a True Brew Amber kit. I figured I'm going to want to share this with people (because beer should be shared and, really, who doesn't want to brag that they brewed their own beer?), and an amber is a good...

    First Brew a Bit Hoppy

Oh don't get me wrong, I loves me some hops (my favorite beers are usually Imperial or Double IPAs), but I just wasn't expecting an amber to be as hoppy as this is, especially since the malt flavor isn't balancing it out as much as it needs to.

    Confusion with my homebrew

I just recently did the True Brew Amber kit as my first attempt, too, and after talking to people here it seems that I didn't leave it in the primary for as long as I should have. It won't come out bad if you don't leave it longer, but mine came out a lot hoppier than it should have...

    First Brew a Bit Hoppy

I had it in my primary for a week (as per the directions; I do have a hydrometer, but with all else I was learning I forsook it until the next time around), and the I had it in my secondary for a little over a week. It's been bottled for about a week and I cracked one open to test it on...

    First Brew a Bit Hoppy

Hey there, all. Complete n00b to this board and to home brewing in general. I just recently completed my first brew, had a lot of fun, and ended up with a product that was better than I expected! The only problem I have is that the brew tastes a bit hoppier than I would have expected. I...
