Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

Come on kilted! It can be used for multiple tasks. Very few items are uni-task if you use your imagination. Used as I suggested it keeps the surface area of the racking cane larger so the cheese cloth doesn't clog easily. Think hopstopper.

Dry Hopping Loose, cheese cloth filter?

Wrap the cheese cloth loosely around your racking cane. Then while racking pull the cloth a little so hops don't pack up around the opening and stop the flow. you can also use something like this on the racking cane to keep the tip clear.

Noob needs clarification about swamp coolers

In a dry climate (like the southwest) a swamp cooler can drop temps 20-25 degrees below ambient. This is best best case scenario. In moister climes they don't work so well. Plus on using the fan, another plus if you can ventilate the room. The air can only hold so much moisture before...

    glass front cooler= kegerator?

If it is tempered glass cutters wont guarntee against breakage but I have had many holes cut in tempered aquariums without them breaking. I have also lost a few. how about having 6 inches cut out across the width and installing a piece of finished oak. then you can drill all you want and sealing...

    Aerate the Wort!

If you are referring to the "adult novelty", it fits on the end of a hose and is about one inch in diameter. The wort travels through it, hits the point in the middle and sprays in all directions similar to a fire sprinkler. I have since switched to O2 but in the past found that $2 device worth...

    Aerate the Wort!

You could get one of these for a couple bucks and forget the shaking.

    Filtering wort

Not a problem. many of us use hop bags during the boil to make hop removal easy. Others just let them settle in the fermenter. You will make beer either way.

    Converting AG --> Extract?

Try downloading beersmith. They offer a free trial for 30 days IIRC. Once you plug the recipe in you can convert with the click of a button.

    Fermentation temp. question

At that starting temp it probably fermented quickly. The first few days are the most important for temp control. After that most of the work is done, the yeast slows down and begins cleaning up. I think it will be fine.

    Question about diagnosing off flavors...

It sounds like you have your proccess fairly sound. With your third batch, the sulpher smell, dont worry yet. Some yeasts have that smell while fermentation is happening such as belgian wits. As for your first 2 batches, top me it sounds like you are describing phenolic. Keep in mind that flavor...

    Question about diagnosing off flavors...

Gotta help the noobs. The more noobs, the more craft and homebrew drinkers. The more craft and homebrew drinkers, the faster BMC stock will fall. ;)

    Question for you veterans

david said it best. your beer will only get better with a little time. We have all found this out the hard way. What was a good beer turns out to be a great beer by the time there are only two left. Relax and brew another batch while you wait for the first.

    Yeast Starter pic 24hrs after

You get no exchange of gasses with the lid on. The starter is outgassing CO2 so tightening and shaking is just mixing it. The main reason we shake a starter is to introduce O2 to the starter. Since you boiled the starter beforehand all of the O2 was pushed out during the boil. After cooling it...

    Bottle sanitizing question

Jet dry is a killer for head retention. Most dishwashers cant get the spray through the small neck opening so they don't clean bottles very well. I suggest wash by hand then pour sanitizing solution from bottle to bottle and drain in the dishwasher rack. If you clean the bottles as you drink...

    Question about conditioning temperatures.

I have never had a problem with those temps for conditioning. I keep my thermostat to 78-80 all summer long. Now that I use a fermentation freezer fermentation isn't a problem either.

    Sanitization question

Think about everything you would spray. the buckets, lids, airlocks, racking canes and tubing, turkey baster, your hands and other items used in specialty brews. One spray bottle doesnt last more than a month if you brew regularly. Dont worry about it going bad.

Do you use a secondary fermenter

No, after cold crashing the primary, clear beer goes to the keg where it can condition as needed.

I need Opinions on burners before I buy?

I have the same agri supply burners. I run 3 burners off of one regulator. The price and function are great, but you will need to make a stand. Turkey fryers on the other hand come with the stand.
