    Hydrometer Question

The fermentation will have left an invisible layer of CO2 on top of your beer. Like the last poster said, just be careful and the oxygen should stay away from your beer. Also, get yourself a wine theif, it will make taking samples much easier. :mug:

    Cheese Cloth?

I'm relitively new to brewing, but why not use a reusable nylon bag? That's what I use...it there a reason one is better than the other?

I have a related question...Im going to brew in a few days and the recipe calls for 5lbs of light DME. That's the only DME I have in the house. If I use a cup of this to make a starter, will I be shorting my recipe too much on brew day, meaning....If i use a cup out of my 5 pounds, will that...

Hello! (And a question about water)

That's interesting. It was possibly a promotional stunt by the city. When I lived in Grand Rapids, MI the city bottled a bunch of the city water and gave it out at local events in an attempt to promote city water over bottled. I thought it was creative.

    Sam Calagione Sour Cherry Ale

So when racking from primary to secondary....don't use a strainer? I have done this with all the brews I've done (granted only 5) and I have not experienced this wet cardboard taste you're talking about. What is it within that process that would cause that flavor?
