Did a pear cider this morning in 30 minutes. Aerated, added a little dextrine and added yeast, in the chamber... Done. Wish my all grain went this fast lol Now... Cup of joe

    Pale ale help

Use the Columbus or Warrior to bitter. Or just use the warrior to bitter. Then add only one hop (if you have enough) at flameout and a dry hop (same hop) You have a few beers to make that way and each will be different

Ok to stir immersion chiller? How about hot wort through the immersion chiller?

I whirlpool with a paint stirrer on a Dewalt. Cools down fast, saves my arm and when I start getting around 100 I ramp up the speed and it starts aerating the wort. Has been working for years.

    Brewing with soften water

I put in softener recently and since the house was older, didn't know whether one of my outside spigots was softened or not (since the house apparently had a softener at one time) so I brewed an ipa and it was horrible. Sent out for a test and...... it was going through the softener. Doh...

    hows my bottom look ;)

I use an old sleeping bag and a wilserbrewer bag! If its in the winter and very cold, i fire the kettle while stirring. Works every time but i have also used the steamer trick as well.

    Pliny the Bastard?

I might do 90/45/15/0 I believe Jamil's recipe was like 85/45/15/0 it seems to me that you have a lot of chinook overall but that's just me. It is definitely a great idea though. Good luck! Keep us posted.

    First SMaSH... Thoughts?

There really is no right or wrong IMO with a SMASH unless you do something dumb like 10lbs of specialty grain with a bittering hop lol But, the only thing I would change is the size. I take it you're doing it to test the grain and hops. I have done a lot of SMASH recipes in the 1.5 gallon size...

missing mash temp - better to be high or low?

Yep, cooler. I learned that the hard way when my thermometer was reading too low and I got a batch of unfermentable beer.

Quick - hop schedule help for tonight!

The hops are great but no dank! Chinook to bitter and any combo after that. I would go Amarillo and cascade at FO and Amarillo Cascade and Citra dry hop
