    BIAB grain absorption rate

    Thanks for all the replies. I've done a couple 2.5gal batches now and it looks like I only absorbed about 0.8gal as well. Loving this BIAB! Nice to have the flexibility of AG, but in the kitchen when the weather sucks. I'll still do traditional for 5+ gallon batches, but these 2.5 gallon batches...

    First non-extract

    I've heard of folks using the grains from a traditional AG batch to make bread. I don't known how well that will work with double crushed grains, though. I've also read that it composts well if you are a gardener. I have a theory that it might make a good catfish chum. I have yet to try it...

    High efficiency Guys

    I just completed my first BIAB and hit 89% efficiency. I ended up mashing a little over 90 mins due to getting caught up with some household tasks with my wife. Double-ground the grains, full volume mash. Started mash @ 154° and it finished about 147°.Set bag in a colander and squeezed it like...

    BIAB grain absorption rate

    Is my likely grain absorption rate likely to differ from "traditional" all grain brewing due to the double crush? Both of the two "traditional" all grain batches I did, my rate was roughly 0.1
