Weird house / real estate listings.

A good test for any person or couple that considers themselves minimalists.

A shack with a tee box, that's cool!

I took about 20 years off myself, I can relate. But I'm happy to be back in the game.

Tuesday I had my first golf lesson since I started playing again. The guy knows his stuff and had me hitting better shots in just a few mnutes. A couple of easy changes in my setup and a downswing move that will get me more open at impact. Here's hoping it only takes 10,000 or so shots to...

    The "Dear" , "Sincerely" thread

Dear guy in the Carhartt overalls, You should be a character actor on the big screen, not sitting around in the doctor's waiting room. And if you begin a story with "My first snake bite was a copperhead", please stay on topic and tell us about your other snake bite(s). I've been wondering all...

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

"Amber alerts" at one place I worked. Nice enough lady, and not unattractive, but sometimes there's a job to do.

Excellent video about measuring the golf swing. EDIT: It should go without saying that the founder of Gears, Michael Nuff, knows a thing or two about the golf swing.

I hit plenty of balls, but I'm overdue for a lesson. I don't want to groove whatever swing flaws I have. Funny you mention setup, since that's one thing that's been more of a focus for me lately. Like any sport, it's all (or at least 99%) about the fundamentals.

The group I play with is very generous at granting relief, which I'm still getting used to. I always played the ball down unless the rules of golf specifically allowed relief. But the course we play does have so many areas that should be ground under repair that I get their point. My friend...

That beats my backyard chipping area. I've searched high and low for a chipping technique until, finally, I came across Dan Grieve. I have his book but really, he explains everything to the tiniest detail in a Rich Shields video. Which is convenient because, even if I could afford him, his...

Played the local country club yesterday (Crown Colony) that was once rated the #2 golf course in Texas. It's a really nice layout, although to someone like me that's not used to so many bunkers, a little intimidating (landed in two bunkers, got up and down once and double-bogeyed the other)...

For people like me that don't have a natural rhythm in their backswing, Athletic Motion Golf has the sheet music. If you are in a hurry, start the video at 2:25 and watch about 3 minutes.

The photo's lack of perspective doesn't show that the ball is on a tee box of the par 3 11th hole. That hole used to be my nemesis, but yesterday, with the pin left, I aimed for the middle, overdrew it, and had a 7 footer for birdie, left the putt on the lip. (I wasn't going to pass up...

Got to the course too late today to play with the group, but at least playing alone I could practice some shots and take a few photos. The dormant grass on the green doesn't look too pretty but it puts well.

About 40 years ago I bought Wilson X-31 irons in my first set (three persimmon woods were included) from JC Penney. They were better irons than the Pings I traded them for.

Match play makes more sense at our course in this season, since a slightly errant tee shot almost guarantees the ball is under a big pile of leaves. Of course, that's not much of a problem for the guys that can keep it in the fairway.

I did the math and "joined" a local golf club here (more like a one-year contract, no initiation fee). At this course, open to the public, playing four rounds a month as a non-member costs as much as unlimited golf, cart and range balls as a member. So my plan is to play something like three...
