    Thanks for everyone's input! I ended up picking up a 6 gal kettle before I saw all the replies. Hopefully I won't regret the decision. Made my first batch yesterday & started with a Citra Pale Ale. My airlock was bubbling today so looks like I've got active fermentation going on.

    Awesome... thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. And yes, I'm starting out with extract. I'll likely take the dive & geta larger kettle. Going to make my first batch this weekend.

    Hi All, First time brewer here. I searched the forums & didn't have any luck. Is it a must that I use a 5 gal brew kettle for a batch? In other words, I have a large stock pot, but it will not hold 5 gals. Can I prepare this batch like this or do I have to invest in a larger kettle?
