    Who Held his Beer?

It’s from 2015, anyone care to check if the “perp” became or career criminal, or learned his lesson and now is a productive citizen, maybe even a home brewer? Any chance the whole thing was just a prank? Are St Louis court records available on line?

Why didn't anyone ever tell me to buy a grain mill sooner

Many people are offering comments saying go with temperature control next, but depending on your circumstances, I'm going to say get a chest freezer, temperature control unit and some used kegs. If your kegs are all empty you can use the chest freezer as a temp. control fermentation chamber...

    Floating Dip Tube Foamer

I’ve been using 5’ of tubing and picnic taps for almost 10 years and it works for me. I can’t remember where the notion of using 5’ of tubing came from, but as I said above, it’s been working great

why siphon instead of pour if next step is aeration?

I always pour from the kettle to the fermenter and have never needed to add oxygen. With small batches it’s not bad, with larger batches I use a sanitized large measuring cup to get the first few gallons out then dump the rest in, being careful to leave the last quart or two of solids in the...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

Many home brewers want to make high ABV beers and the on the commercial side 9% IPAs are quite common. If you brew your own, you can fight these trends and focus on making way better 2-4% ABV beers than you can get at the store. So you can enjoy a pint or two after work and not really worry...

Using left over in the fermenter immediately for the next batch.

I do it sometimes if it’s a similar beer, such as a porter followed by a stout. It saves some time cleaning, but there are some risks. 2 runs is as far as I’ve taken it and I haven’t had any issues.

    What is Fresh?

One of the first beers I ever brewed was a Belgian hoppy ale. It was harsh, bitter and I thought I just messed up the recipe. I set it aside and brewed some more. Maybe 6 months later I tried it again and it was one of the best beers I ever had. So “fresh” isn’t always the best….. :mug:

All NEIPA recipes taste the same

Which one did you try, is one better than the others? What hops did you use with it?

All NEIPA recipes taste the same

The information I’ve found indicates some hops just work better in NEIPAs than others, especially when using thiolized yeast. So if that’s the route you want to follow (that’s what I’m checking out now) then your choice of hops becomes more limited.

All NEIPA recipes taste the same

I’m making different versions of NEIPA so I can see for myself if what they are selling works for me. I won’t have any data, just my personal opinion about how the beer comes out.

All NEIPA recipes taste the same

I’ve been playing around with my own versions of low ABV NEIPA and trying to study what information is out there. My next step is using phantasm from More Beer and then thiolized yeast strains. I’m just changing one thing at a time, to see how it works for me, but I believe the instructions...

    Never had a NEIPA

If I could homebrew at “camp” it wouldn’t seem so deplorable….

    Never had a NEIPA

I recently did an extract low ABV NEIPA using 3 lbs Pilsnen light DME, a mini mash with 1 lb wheat malt, 1 lb Oat Malt and 8 oz carapils, 4 gallon batch, 30 min boil, 1 oz Amarillo and ElDorado in whirlpool below 180F/ overnight porch chill at 30f ambient , 1 oz Amarillo added when pitching...

    Never had a NEIPA

I can remember “hate speech” (here on HBT) about brewing in a bag. I used to think the NEIPA thing was a passing BS fad for people willing to drive to Vermont, stand in a long line and pay big bucks for a 4 pack of beer. Then I started trying some, and some are better than others. I like a...

    Never had a NEIPA

You sure that wasn’t “hard” kombucha you were trying? ;)

Do you consider electric/automated brewing equipment to be cheating?

Many years ago, I asked about BIAB right here on HBT; a well known member commented: “learn to brew the right way”. So “cheating” and doing things the right way change over the years and vary from person to person. Brew what you want and how you want to. :mug:

    Domestic Ingredients

Deer Creek malt house accessible to me, a 55 lb sack of pale malt is $62, the Pilsner is $88. Seems high, but about the same if I get grain like Rahr or Briess shipped to me. When I use up what I’ve got on hand I may try it.

    blasphemus beer blending?

The comment made my think if the old joke, what’s a “taint”? I keep Genesee Light on hand so I can taint home made cider and beer as well as other commercial beers. If I order an IPA at a bar or restaurant and it’s too intense for me, I’ll just get whatever light lager they have to go with it.

Help Me Build My Home Brewery Setup on My Budget.

I’ve been using Speidel plastic fermenters for my NEIPAs and so far they work pretty good. I up graded the bottom valve from plastic to metal and added a co2 attachment to the top for pressure transferees and since it’s plastic, I can use a magnet to hold dry hops to the upper part of the...

    Why do people Quit brewing?

I‘m doing a “moist” January, I think it just sounds better than dry or damp. But lately, I’ve been trying to watch my weight, trying to cut back on drinking, been working 6-7 days a week, and just decided to put brewing on the back burner for now. I am expecting to get a few brews going here...
