What's been your single most beneficial homebrewing upgrade?

I agree, kegging made the biggest improvement to my day. Maybe not the best improvement ever to my overall beer (although it did reduce a lot of extra racking), but certainly improved my sanity.

Poll: What is your investment in homebrewing?

One point I forgot to mention before, upgrading along the way will cost you more money. If you really want that better boil kettle, or that whatever cool gadget, spend the extra money upfront and be done with it, IMO.

    Whats your favorite porter?

This ^^^ Also, if you want dessert in a glass and you can find it, Maui Brewing's coconut porter is a rare treat.

Poll: What is your investment in homebrewing?

I'm somewhere under $5k. I've never actually thought to stop and add it up. It wasn't all in one shot, like any hobby a little bit here, a little bit there. Quality isn't necessarily equal to the amount spent. Proper technique and sanitation is a must and will go much farther in producing...

What does your SWMBO think of your brewing hobby(lifestyle for some of you)

My wife deals with it pretty well. She's gotten used to the hobby taking up more space than she would have liked (especially when I put a 4 corny kegerator in the TV room), and in return I remember to brew some styles that I know she likes. She's not really a "beer person" though, so I doubt...

Kolsch, Hefe's and Wit are all popular summer beers around here. I'm also planning on brewing a blonde this summer.

question about getting beer gas in milwaukee

I suspect the OP is talking about the 75% N2 / 25% CO2 blend known as "Beer Gas", not CO2. (See: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/what-about-guinness-133649/ ) That said, I have no idea where to get it in Milwaukee. The best bet would be to call around to a couple of welding supply shops...

    Great girlfriend/future wife story...

Mmmmmmmm.... I used to work about 5 minutes from GLBC and a good friend used to work for them. Good times. Worked out especially nice when a keg of Nosferatu or Dortmunder would find its way to the trunk of the car for a party, err "beer tasting..." :rockin:

    Great girlfriend/future wife story...

You are a lucky man. Actually, my fiancee has been very understanding about the space I keep taking up between brewing equipment and the 4 corney kegerator. But she gets out of dodge on brew day. "Hey, it's your hobby, not mine." :)

    20 Gallon Day

Somewhere last summer I started w/ the 20 gallon days doing 4 five gallon extract kits per brewday. it certainly makes for a long day full of multitasking and I'm usually pretty wiped out after - but I do like only having to set-up and tear-down once. I've said repeatedly that once I make the...

What beer would you describe as the beer that 'awakened' you...?

Similar experience... was a Budweiser guy in the college days. Shortly after someone tossed me a Sam Adams Boston Lager and the rest was, as they say, history. Although some beers have been more influential since then. For example, Cantillon's gueuze really opened up my eyes to how a lambic...

Going to Belgium, where to visit?

Sounds like you're going to have a great trip. Here's a couple of my favorites from a trip some buddies and I took touring the Belgium countryside and visiting breweries. Cantillon - If you were going in the fall, they have an "open brew day" where they let the general public come in and watch...

Had to do it - Had to dump some batches.

On the chilled ones, the gush went away, but the really nasty taste didn't. Bottles all are brushed, washed in PBW and air-dried. Then rinsed with star-san on the day of bottling. (Actually, I fill my bottling bucket with star-san, then dunk all the bottles and hang them on the previously...
