    Dry hopping

I think dry hopping and then hopping in keg gives a much more significant hop flavor than you get any other way. I was never happy with how quickly the dry hops faded when bottling though - I got to a point where I gave up on bottling really hoppy beer. Even the keg hop presence diminishes and...

    CO2 blanket poll

Count me in the camp of those who can’t vote because the poll is overly reductive. Yes, CO2 doesn’t provide a perfect barrier, and opening your fermenter introduces some O2, so it is wise to limit how long you have it open, but don’t take the ”gasses mixing“ observation to mean that it is an...

    Can't get real hop flavor

I would add some dry hops to that. Here a very interesting Brulosophy experiment with some surprising results: https://brulosophy.com/2016/02/29/hop-stand-vs-dry-hop-exbeeriment-results/

    Can't get real hop flavor

The amount of hop flavor/aroma is largely a product of the amount and type of hop used. Trying different varieties with different amounts would be a good idea. You can make a good hoppy beer while bottling - just need the right recipe. This is a very good one...

East Coast v. West Coast IPA recipe needed

How about 2, 1 gal malt only beers, fermented with each of these. It won’t necessarily be something you’d want to drink much of but will make any differences between the two clear

How has brewing changed you in other aspects of life?

Homebrewing replaced all interest in the time suck that is World of Warcraft and the $$$ suck that is golfing. I find Homebrewing to be a much more engaging hobby and you get free beer at the end

    I Love My LHBS because.....

Mine (Weak Knee Homebrew in Pottstown Pa), vacume packs the grain, will sell you a sack of grain at near cost, has a barrel club, and serves their own beer for free. It is a very well run little shop.

    Help Troubleshoot my low FG

I've been frustrated by this too. I had a beer that got to 63% apparent attenuation after a month (which was my target) and then proceeded to get down to 94% AA given 4 more months in secondary (I was pissed). Yeast are odd creatures that don't care what we want them to do. It seems like...

Beer getting too 'crisp' in the keg

Could too cool a seving temperature and/or carbonation levels could be an explanation for the crispness?

How do BJCP judges evaluate beer?

Do judges typically take any action to cleanse their palate between beers? Is there some standard operating procedure for this that judges are expected to follow?

    Beer Trends

Wouldn't bet the house on this but I could see mixing in flavorings at serving becoming in vogue. Not unusual to see this in Germany - coke or lemonade in a lager or fruit syrup in a Berliner Weisse

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

Response to some over carbonated bottles that are fine if you pour them into a glass: "I can drink Lagunitas from the bottle"
