What to do with a bucket that's had an infection

Sounds good. Yeah I think I will replace the spigot.

What to do with a bucket that's had an infection

So I got an infection. It's in a brand new bucket too! It does have a plastic spigot as well. I suspected a bad batch of yeast due to no airlock activity after 4 days so I took a gravity sample through the spigot. Not sure if that's how I introduced the nasties or when I pitched new yeast...

    Brewie automated system

Has anyone heard about this or have any feedback? Fully automated brewing and full size batches compared to the pico brew. At the same price as well. brewie.org

Anvil FIAK (Ferment in a Kettle)

Curious how do transfer off all the trub/yeast cake? Do you have a racking arm or do you just turn your ball valve/pickup tube upwards?

Turning pick tube up valve into racking arm?

Wanting to try fermenting in my keggle. Is their anyway I could spin my ball valve/pickup tube assembly to use it as a racking arm. I see where the new anvil kettle ferment kit add a Teflon washer in between the valve to allow it to spin. Think this could work for me?

    eBay thermowell

Not really a thermowell but it's a stainless Rtd temp probe that's sealed. It's also got 1/2 npt threads so it will fit into my fast fermenter. They say it's 304 stainless. Think it's ok to use?

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

Thanks for all the responses guys. I did try the expanding foam in the lid trick. Didn't make a difference. I think I will try some foam and maybe some foil. Yes there is a pretty good gap between the top of grain bed and lid so I will try to fill it. I will report back

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

Yeah sometimes I recirculate but have found a pretty big drop in efficiency so I went back to batch sparge. But that's a different story.

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

I also may be losing some from my recirculating port. But if I'm not using it I always close it off and wrap it up

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

Yeah I preheat with 5 gal of hot water while my strike water is heating up. I have a thermometer in my mash tun. I always hit my starting mash temp and then after 10 min or so the temps starts to slowly drop.

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

Yeah I have to keep a concrete block on top of my cooler lid to keep it down. The heat always wants to push the lid off. I still think some heat is leaking around it though. That's why I was wondering about the reflectix to try and keep the heat from rising up there.

    Mash tun losing 5+degrees

Over my hour rest I'm losing at least 5 degrees in my 10g Rubbermaid cooler. Generally using about 13 pounds of grain so not a lot in there. What can I do to help this out? I've seen the reflectix stuff but how much does that help as the smallest roll is 20$.

Bru Gear ProFermenter 14 Gallon Review

Would the cooling coil go deep enough into the conical to accommodate 5.5g batches? Also thought about buying one of Bobby's stainless elements and having a bung welded in. "Brew in a Conical" for a fraction of the price compared to Brau Supply or BrewHa

    FastFerment conical

I have used mine with wine as have others. It certainly works fine for it. The only issue I had along with some on winemaking talk is the fine lees when it comes time to bottling. The same as with beer there is a going to be some small amounts of sediment on the sides. With time and tapping the...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Curious daman mentioned adding 100ppm of calcium to the water for all batches. Is this the consensus for everyone else?

    Carboy Cap

Yeah I fermented with an airlock on mine one time. It's so loose I didn't get any airlock activity. All the co2 escaped around the cap

    Carboy Cap

Also wondering about these. I have two as well and they are very lose on my carboys. I bought hem thinking I could start a siphon but they won't seal tight enough for it. Italian glass carboys if that matters.

pH calibration with wort temps on Milwaukee M102

Grab a shot glass and fill a sample. Throw it in the freezer. Takes just a few min.
