    Removing FWH before boil

I was thinking of trying something different. Well, I'm sure someone has done this in the brewing world, so I am looking for insight. I was thinking i would drop...lets say an ounce in my runnings and let them steep for 30minutes at 160 F. Then raise the temp to 180 F and drop in another ounce...

    Td4 SNR programming for mashing

Hey all, it's been awhile since I started my Ebiab adventure. I'm all set up but I cannot figure out how to set the PID to hold my mash temp. I can get it to manual mode for boiling no problem, but I am getting a brain block on setting the mash temp. I would like to brew Saturday so your help...

Hole in kettle for heating element

Alright guys, I'm about to put the hole in my kettle. Is it absolutely necessary to use a conduit punch? I have a step bit that did a pretty great job for my control box. Is using a step bit for the hole for the element a bad idea?

TD4-SNR Information - Temp/Best setting for this device?

Ok guys, I officially finished my brew controller! I'm pretty excited that it is finished and everything appears to be working correctly. The only thing left is cutting a while in my kettle and installing the element for the ultimate test. I can say I am not looking forward to that, just for the...

    Temp probe assistance.

I bought a temp probe and the colors are two white wires and one red one. I'm wiring my td4 mypin pid. Most of what I've found has been related to two red wires and 1 white wire. This is where I get confused. Any input? Oh yeah, the two white wires are labeled B and the red wire is labeled A.

    Wire color question

I am getting ready to wire my control box and I cut up some old 14g computer cable. The wire inside is Blue, Brown, and green yellow. I am assuming the following Brown-hot Blue-neutral Green/yellow-ground Is this right?

Distance between false bottom and heating element

I just received my heating element. It appears that I need to raise my false bottom. Is there a recommended distance from the false bottom to the heating element? Or heating element to this bottom of the kettle? I'm thinking I'm going to cut the false bottom legs in the middle to extend them...

    Can my house handle EBIAB?

I am a renter and my closest outlet to where I brew does not appear to be GFCI. BUT, There was one day where the circuit turned off randomly. The only way to get it back on was to reset the GFCI circuit in my bathroom. If the outlet connects to that, would it be ok? Im not sure if i...

PID Cheap or auberins? Also, RTD question

So, theres the cheap PIDs......DO they work as good as the Auberin PID? I can buy a PID (Mypin TD6), 40A SSR, and Heatsink for $37. Or the AUberin PID for $55 (cost plus shipping). Then I have to buy the SSR and Heatsink. It adds up fast. Does it matter? if so, how much? My next question...

Old Hops? What to do with them

Question: Anyone ever order too many hops? I did. I have a good amount sitting in my freezer. The bag somehow came open and they seem to be not as fresh as they once were. I brewed with some and they definitely are not up to par. Any ideas on what to do with them? Hop candy came to mind.

Do you spend too much on this hobby?

I recently decided I wanted to go the all electric route in brewing. In the this world, it can be reasonable. But, there is also a more expensive route. I honestly found some systems ridiculous. I would like to know the home brewer that pays $3000 for their homebrew set up. It blows my mind...
