Keg leak cost me 4 gallons of beer

Update: all six lines are at the same PSI. No secondary regulators. I never changed PSI from 12. Keg was unpressurized when I hooked it up. I pulled the keg and all 5 gallons of beer were lost. The keg had no pressure in it, so this is a keg issue. I just don't understand why the beer was in...

Keg leak cost me 4 gallons of beer

There was no pressure on the keg when I hooked it up to gas. The beer finished at 1.011. If the liquid side pin lock had a leak I would expect beer shower all over the inside of my keezer. What I found was pooling and beer running into my CO2 manifold, which isn't mounted, but just...

Keg leak cost me 4 gallons of beer

Hey all. I have a 4-tap keezer and recently kegged a pilsner and put it on gas to lager for a few weeks before I was to tap it. The next morning I wake up and about three or four gallons of pilsner is sitting on the bottom of my keezer and I have beer in the CO2 line and manifold. My CO2...

    Keggle Mash/Cooler Lauter?

Back in the day I used to mash in a pot with no fittings and then dump into a bucket fitted with a plastic false bottom for lautering. A risk is stuck sparge. I had success putting several inches of 170 degree water in the bucket before dumping. Another risk is just making a general mess...

    Yeast starter issue.

That's what I thought. The krausen on that jar was twice the size of the other and then it didn't settle out when I crashed it in the fridge. Thought it was odd since the two jars came from the same starter jar.

    Yeast starter issue.

I have two starters of Wyeast 3522 Ardennes from the same culture that I stepped up and divided. One has a film on top and one doesn't. I crashed them in the fridge yesterday. The one with the film doesn't smell off, but the one without film smells stronger of Belgian yeast. I'm brewing ten...

What is this floating in my fermenter?

I thought the stained glass reflection was the infant stage of our future machine overlords growing in there. Since it's not, I think it is all fine.

    KABOOM! Diacetyl Bomb

Nope. You'll be fine. Might lose some aroma compounds but if you can tell sign up for a cicerone certification program.

    Question about price of kegs

Thanks guys. Very helpful information indeed.

    Question about price of kegs

I can get eight unreconditioned kegs and two 15lb CO2 tanks for $300. I've never reconditioned kegs before. Is that price a good one or would I be getting ripped off? It's part of two wet bars that a local hotel is selling. Thanks in advance.

    Firestone Sucaba (Abacus) Clone

I'm taking a shot at formulating a recipe for Sucaba. I'm not very experienced in doing this from scratch, so I'd appreciate any thoughts you all might have. Info from Firestone Walker's website is below the recipe. Thank you for any input! This is for a 2.5 gallon batch: Recipe Type...

    Alferman Imperial Berliner Weisse

I just added four ounces of each grain to my order and used a cup of that for the starter. Just used a kitchen sieve to filter the liquid from the grain.

    Found motor

I bet I could make a 15 gallon starter easy on a stir plate with this motor! Motor for a grain mill sounds promising. I'd like to start buying grain in bulk. I need to figure out the wiring. No experience in that department other than installing a garbage disposal one time.

    Found motor

I found this motor in my attic. The previous homeowner must have left it. Anybody have an idea of something brew related I could use it for?

WLP001 from a 9% ABV IIPA with enough hop pellets in it to get me 216 IBUs?

    Bottles for Berliner Weiss

I know the prevailing wisdom is to bottle berliner weiss in belgian bottles with a cork and cage. Regular bottles are thought to be too conducive to becoming bottle bombs. I'd like to hear from folks with actual experience. Is 5 oz. of corn sugar for a 5 gallon batch enough to get the...

Hope I didn't ruin my Pliny clone

That all makes me feel better about it. It finished a little drier than expected and I'm sitting at 8.9% ABV. Thanks folks!

Hope I didn't ruin my Pliny clone

I just added the last addition of dryhops and took a gravity sample. Problem is I forgot to sanitize my beer thief before pulling a sample. It made contact with my wort twice. It was clean, but not sanitized. :(
