What Is The One Aspect of Brewing That Is Least Important to Brewing a Good Beer? (In Your Opinion)

I think my one process to skip would be transferring to secondary. I don't ever do that, just throw my dry hops, fruit, whatever in tha bucket. I'm lucky in that my tap water is so good a Saki brewery located here for just the water. I'll add a bit of Gypsum for really hoppy beers, but that's...

Pale ale is super bitter- hopeless?

Yeah, if it is a "Pale Ale" with a target IBU of 72, then style-wise it is an IPA, so just call it that! Next time reduce the hops to be around 40-ish IBUs and it would taste more like a classic PA. I wouldn't mess with it by adding more fermentables at this point, if it is good, just a little...

Newbie Kegging Question - Two Kegs, One Regulator

Yeah, for a long term solution mount a manifold. For now, just pop the gas line on the new keg and start carbing it while still pulling pints off the old one.

    Malt choices for American IPAs

I like about 5% crystal, then I slam them with late and whirlpool hops. Just enough crystal for some color and a little sweetness to stand up to the alcohol. It really isn't noticeable, but drier would be. I add a lb of sugar in my DIPAs to keep them from getting sweet at 9-10% ABV. Sent...

Anyone else not like eating while drinking?

I like to have something like a pale ale or IPA with dinner and save anything more complex, higher gravity or quality for after to enjoy on its own. Has my 1st Pliney last night (finally), bottled only 6 days prior! It was great, I definitely didn't sully my pallet with any food while...

Pale ale ready in 31 days for keg competition?

You could also dry hop it right in the keg. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Coopers kits(5) Pilsner Five Years Expired

Yes, us05 dry yeast is good and inexpensive. I wouldn't add any bittering hops, but some fresh hops at 15 mins and flameout would add some flavor, aroma and a few ibus to make up for what was lost sitting in storage. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Help with recipe - Light Pale Ale

Keep the 05 at 64-68 and it will be good, I use it all the time. That recipe looks good. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Dumping a Barleywine..

Ive made a berlinerweiss using a 48 hr sour mash and it was definitely tart. These were totally different with no flavor impact. My theory is the hops, ABV, and yeast competition kept it at bay so it was barely starting to take hold visibly on the surface, but hasn't impacted flavor yet...

    Dumping a Barleywine..

I appreciate the feedback and your perspective. I'm sure they were infected and I'm sure they tasted fine, maybe it is just the type of bug I got. Lacto? Not enough time to sour it? The pellicles were just barely getting started. It's probably time for new buckets, I think maybe bugs are...

    Dumping a Barleywine..

I figure they didnt taste different because I cold crashed, kegged and drank them fairly quick. Chilling to low 30s really puts a damper on the bugs. If I bottled, that would have been 3 more weeks in each case for the infection to progress and produce off flavors. I also only primary for...

    Dumping a Barleywine..

Yeah I just had my 3rd infection in 2 1/2 years, a pellicle is pretty obvious. There is a film and white bubbles with white debris and often white strands. None of my infected batches tasted any different, they all were great, but I chilled and kegged them. Bulk aging is different, glad it...

    Bottling Belgian Quad with Kriek

I think your overthinking it. Just put a bottle of Kriek in the bucket, add the priming sugar and rack the beer on it. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

On gas for 3 weeks - still seems flat

Yes, there must be a leak, the ABV shouldn't matter and it should be carbed by now. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Gettin your wives to drink a craft brew...what's it take?!

My wife started out having a Widmer Hef on occasion eating out. She now loves Porters and Stouts and we jokingly say she "doesn't like IPA's, too bitter", she'll drink the most aggressive West Coast syle IPA or DIPA and like it, just not her favorite style. She likes sours from Cascade and...

Would you spend on kegging equipment or AG equipment?

I'd keg, you can continue to partial mash and BIAB w/o any additional equipment. I have a nice 3 tap keezer and still do partial mashes and BIAB AG half batches since I don't have room for more gear. I love my keezer. A ferm chamber would be my next investment. Sent from my iPhone using...

If I start another Keezer thread, will I be banned on my first post?

My house is crap for space so I just made a 3 tap out of a 5cf in the dining room. In your case, I'd keep the 14 and use the extra space for lagering and storing bottled and kegged beers waiting to be tapped. Add new taps at your leisure. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Sour Beers - Remaining Questions

Thanks for starting this thread, I just ordered your book and will no doubt have questions. The sours from Cascade are my inspiration for trying my own, my wife really likes them. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Hoppy Beers.... Really??

Ha! I definitely love the hoppy beers now with DIPA being my favorite style. The sour comment is funny, I just ordered the American Sours book from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1938469119/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I'm fortunate to have Cascade Barrel House local so I have had...

    Pinewood Derby Double IPA

Looks like a solid DIPA. My only suggestions would have been to FWH the Simcoe for some flavor instead of 60 min and at least double the dry hop amount. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
