Hey Everbody!! It's been a while since I've posted or replied to anything (I've been Lurking), but I need some help!!!! I brewed a chocolate stout a month ago. Two weeks in primary and two in the secondary, and I'm ready to bottle.....I think. I've been having some really weird problems...

    Stone clone in the secondary

I have a Stone Ruination Clone from AHS in my secondary now. It was two weeks to get through primary and its dryhopping along right now. For somthing this big and bitter, should I let it go a little longer in the secondary than the standard two weeks?

    Dry hopping's effect on IBU

I don't know if there is an easy question to answer, but if anybody can, I know i'm in the right place. Does dry hopping have an effect on IBU's? If so, how do you calculate? I've got a stone ruination clone in the primary now, and its going to get 1/2 oz. of centennial in the secondary...

    yeast question

So I have a gift certificate to AHS and an extra packet of safe-ale US-05 American ale yeast. I want to get a kit from AHS and use the yeast I have. Would this yeast be appropriate for and IPA (like the Stone Ruination IPA)? If not, what are some styles it would work for? Thanks for the...

    Holiday Cheer

Recently, after having dinner at my parents house, my dad and I were chatting when he asked me what I had brewing. I told him that there was sadly nothing in the jars at the moment, and that, sadder still, there wasn't anything coming up. My parents have a Christmas Eve party every year...

    Question for EdWort

EDWort, Did you have luck replicating the starsan experiment to remove baked on paint from bottles? I've built up some Stone bottles, and I want to get them cleaned up and into the ready to use portion of the bottle collection. I havn't found starsan at my LBHS, but I will look harder if...

    old yeast/stuck fermentation

I was asked by a friend to brew a batch of Oktoberfest for someone who bought the ingredient kit from Truebrew..... a year ago, and left it on the kitchen counter. I made a starter to make sure the yeast (packet of munton dry yeast) was still kickin', and everything seemed fine. Four days in...

    keggle question

No this is not a thread to talk about the morality of aquireing kegs. This is a material question. I recentlly got started on modifying a keg that may or may not have been carried by clydesdales in the past. Ithink that it is made of alluminum, but I'm not that good with materials. I...

    combo mash lauter tun

I know that this is a pretty basic stuff, but I am trying to get equiptment together for gaoing AG. I am planning on going with the round beverage cooler type set up for masg and lauter, but I don't understandwhy the mash tun and lauter tun are two different vessels. Why can't I mash in to a...

First AHS kit - yeast nutrient question

I am expecting my Samual Adams Summer Ale kit tomarrow to brew on Saturday and had a question about the Yeast Nutrient that comes with it. Is this to be used to in the starter, instead of the starter, in the primary, or in conjunction with DME in the starter??? Thank for the help.

Message to NOOB's from a NOOB

After reading many, many, many "Oh my god my beer is infected" posts, I kept my nerves under wraps about my second brew (extract IPA w/ specialty grains). Definitely had me worried as I tasted my reading samples. Well, I tried it after only two week in the bottle last night....... Wow!!! I...

    My first wheat

One of the big motivations getting into this for me is wanting to get good at wheat beers (Bells Oberon is so good I named my cat after it). Third batch is first stab at a Oberon clone. I found the basic recipe by searching here, and made a couple of adjustments with the help of friendly LHBS...

    Ready to PM, almost

I know I can do better than my first brew. It was an extract amber ale I consider pretty good. I am not going to stick around and try to perfect the art of extract brewing. I am definitely ready to take the pm plunge, and think I have a pretty good handle on the process, and access to a...

    First taste

I tasted my first HB (Coopers amber ale extract) after one week of bottle conditioning just to see how it was coming. Overall, I was pleased, but there was a bit of a syrupy flavor. It was in primary for eight days, then bottled with dextrose as priming sugar. Is this flavor typical of all...

    Temp. question

I just started my first batch on Sunday night (All extract amber ale). Everything has been going great so far - lots of activity first two days, steady bubbles since then - down to about 8 seconds apart. I checked my temerature and specific gravity last night. the sg started at 1.046 and is...

    New Brewer

Just started my first batch. Got turned on to brewing a year or so ago by sampling a very tasty IPA a friend brewed. My first attempt is an all extract amber ale. So far - two days and a lot of blowoff from my little yeasties!!!
