No problemo.... I have Plasitc pipes so I guess I dont have that problem, When I brew AG out in the shop I use water from my hydrent so it is REAL hard. And it seems to be about the same to me, hell if ya make em strong enough ya wont be able to taste the water anyway..lol

I brew with the water that comes out of my water softener as well. I have never noticed any bad taste from it.

you can use a heating pad under the carboy and wrap a dry towel around it to help keep it warm, its worked for me in the past.

I have a inground pool and have been using the buckets that the Bromine( spelling?) that I use for the pool comes in for years,have U ever tried to scoop up those big tabs? it dont work to good, I just poor mine out or pick em up by hand. The bucketts do take a bit of work to get the smell out...

Adjust the air flow on the end of the burner where your hose connects.That should make it burn hotter.

I have 4" well and live in the country with 12 acres, so I dont have that problem. real cold water too. My cfc is a 2' piece of 4" pvc pipe with 30' of copper coiled up in it & the wort goes in hot & comes out cold and so does the water.
