BrewToad shutting down, BeerXML export bug

So with the notification of the demise of BrewToad at the end of the year our clubs webmaster and I were kicking around the possibility of spinning up our own instance of BrewBlogger for our club. Admittedly BrewBlogger hasn't seen a lot of updates in the past few years, but there seems to be...

Beer Smith Mobile (android) good enough stand alone, or do I NEED the desktop?

Title kind of says it Do I need the desktop application or is the mobile version complete enough to work standalone without the desktop app? I've got some play store promotional credits and am thinking about buying the mobile app, but I'm not a beersmith user on the desktop.

Just got a starter culture...where do I go from here?

A buddy from my brew club gave me a Kombucha starter/culture/mother/jar-of-goop??? and I'm looking to get started. Am rather surprised not to see a thread stickied for newbies like almost any other part of the forum. I gather all I need to do is brew up a half gallon of tea, add a little...

    Planning my three-tier brewstand

I'm in the early planning stages of a three-tier and thought I'd share my preliminary sketches. Due to financial constraints I will not be buying pumps any time soon so gravity fed three-tier is going to be it. Primarily 2x4 construction, for decking I will be trolling the scratch&dent part of...

    Fermcap S - turning solid?

My bottle of fermcap seems to be turning into a thick gel. Anyone else experienced this? Was trying to use it last Monday and couldn't hardly get a drop out, then noticed it had become a thick gel in the bottle. Am I storing it wrong? One of the other homebrewers I know mentioned that...

My ridiculously easy stir plate build - nearly no tools needed!

I'll skip the obvious stuff that is covered in multiple threads already. If you haven't already read Anthony's excellent https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/my-stirplate-cheap-easy-build-86252/ First is my fan in the enclosure I selected. The box contained these foam'ish inserts from it's...

Is it too early to start talking about 11-11-11?

It was suggested in the https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/10-10-10-recipe-discussion-thread-hbt-anniversary-series-79107/ thread that: I've been doing some reading and it seems like bugged beers benefit from some extra aging so it might be appropriate to start some serious discussion now...

A while back someone posted the Wyeast private collection for the rest of the year

... and for the life of me I can't find it today, my search-fu is not channeling well or something. Anyone have that list, or a link to it? Thanks.

Nebraska Craft Beer Drinkers please read regarding LB 867

I hope it's OK to post this kind of thing here Hey guys I wanted to pass this along because it comes before the state legislature to override the governor's veto on Tuesday(March 9, 2010). It certainly has the potential to limit the number of commercial craft beers available for purchase in...

    My little kegerator

Doner freezer, you can see the new 20amp dedicated circuit just to the left under the breaker box. All the cooling aperatus is on top. No lines in the walls to worry about if I need to make a hole. Right hand side. I added the flat perforated bars, you will see why later. Cold air is...

    Refractometer question: 32% vs. 40%

So I'm looking to upgrade to a refractometer and am seeing refractometers with ranges of either 0-32 Brix or 0-40 Brix (and others with higher ranges for undiluted honey etc). Both have a +- .2 Brix accuracy. I'm thinking that with beer at least I'm unlikely to exceed 32 brix (1.139 SG) but if...

Building my kegerator this week, quick question.

I going to have a false panel inside the door to hold the faucets, so the door can be locked to keep the kids out. I'm trying to plan ahead to when I add a stout faucet. Does a stout faucet stick out further from where it is mounted than a regular perlick 425? I need to figure out how far...

Lowes Black Friday deal on Portable CO2 regulator

I did a search and could find this mentioned so I just thought I'd throw this out there: According to blackfriday.info the Kobalt Portable Compressed CO2 Regulator like BierMuncher used in his Rolling Kegerator will be marked down to $49.00 for "Black Friday"

Blue Rhino reducing the amount of propane in their tanks.

Just last night one of the local TV stations did one of their "Consumer Watch" stories, the topic: Blue Rhino decreasing the amount of propane in their cylinders from 17 Lbs to 15 Lbs. Of course no change in price. These tanks should hold 20 Lbs. I may have to switch back to filling.

    If I had $100 - Oxygen concentrator

http://omaha.craigslist.org/for/786576256.html I don't currently oxygenate my starters/wort but with this I'd never have to worry about buying o2 cylenders. Oxygen concentrators with too many hours for continued use for medical purposes. Maybe another of you NE, or western Iowa guys could...

More first year hops - Am I ready to harvest?

After work I drove out to the brother-in-laws to check the hops, I've been remiss and haven't been out for a couple weeks. Here are my first year cascades: Bottom part of bine. The one further away did not quite reach the top of the trellis and got so heavy it slipped down the coir yarn...

    Yet another grain mill question

OK, suppose you are a LHBS and you don't currently mill grain for your customers, but would like to. What would be the best mill out there considering it would eventually see a lot more use than just a single brewer using his mill at home? How long before you would likely have to have the...

100th post time to introduce myself

Hi all. My 100th post seemed like a good time to introduce myself. I'm Chris Miller from Omaha, NE. Programmer by trade, brewed my first batch about 9 years ago and my second batch about 1.5 years ago. I've brewed mostly extract w/specialty grains and about 8 batches in the last year. I've...
