    Troublesome brew, now probably infected.

Hm, I'm pretty sure that was some kind of funky bacterial junk. I'd checked the gravity before racking to the secondary and it was damn near final gravity, I only racked it so it would clear some more. I wish I'd taken photos when I was bottling, you could see the fuzzy/waxy white film stick...

    Troublesome brew, now probably infected.

It had reached final gravity, and it actually smelled pretty good, so I just went ahead and bottled it. Fingers crossed!

    Troublesome brew, now probably infected.

dang, I don't really have the time/equipment to boil it all right now. When you say "bottle/keg and enjoy ASAP" is that assuming I'm using CO2 to carbonate? Because I don't have the technology for that. If I need to let the bottles sit to carbonate on their own is that infection going to get out...

    Troublesome brew, now probably infected.

A couple people mentioned reboiling. How does this work? Would I bring it all up to a rolling boil again, chill it, then pitch more yeast? Would that kill the unwanted bacteria? It probably wouldn't fix any flavour issues, right? I work a lot, so I haven't cracked the airlock on it yet. I'll go...

    Troublesome brew, now probably infected.

First it was too hot, then there were fruit flies, and now what looks like an infection. (I attached a photo of the infection, not sure how this works!) I've read all over the forum and I know well enough not to dump it (or do I?). Should I just bottle it? Rack it? Hold a funeral?

    Hullo, from Nova Scotia!

Hi there, I'm Prunella and I'm from Halifax, NS, Canada. I've been making my own beer for just over a year now, but I've only been brewing from grain for a couple months. Before that it was festabrew, which was fun and rewarding, but now I'm up for bigger challenges! I'm a punk "kid" with...

    Where'd my krausen go?

well, it seems to be fine. Took a reading this morning, then racked it to a secondary and I've got activity in the airlock. Stoked!

    Dealing with fruit flies

Yeah, we have traps everywhere but my main concern is keeping them out of the beer!

    Dealing with fruit flies

We get a pretty nasty fruit fly colony in our house in the summer, and it's kind of impossible to keep them away from everything, especially giant quantities or sugary, fermenting liquid. My primary is a bucket and we've had some issues with flies getting inside. Does anyone else have problems...

    Where'd my krausen go?

Yeah, I guess a reading would help. To be honest, we've never used a hydrometer in my house, we usually just rack once the krausen dies down and things have never messed up. Then again, up until now I was using festabrew so there's not much margin for error....

    Where'd my krausen go?

So I just brewed my first all grain batch (solo, that is) and now every little thing is freaking me out. I made a brown ale on Saturday night, put it in the primary (using a bucket) and pitched the yeast. The temperature read around 80. I checked it in the middle of the night and there was a...
