probably steeping with more water is better, as it will maintain it's temp better. :mug:

My Spanish friends tasted it and called it Pulque. My brother calls it Apple Beer. I also call it delicious.

How long is your Brew Day???

Probably around 5 hours. I buy milled grains. I boil 3.5 gallons on my burner, for the mash. During the rest I boil 7 gallons for the HLT. Its usually at temp right before the rest is done. Sparge is pretty quick. Then I clean during the boil, and sanitize what I need. A wort chiller...

    1st Mead, just winging it.

Well I have it in the carboy now, I really meant can I bottle now, rather than let it sit in the carboy. Does it matter?

I think I used 15 for 5 gallons. Totally overdid it. Live and learn.

    1st Mead, just winging it.

ok, just put it in the secondary today. The smell of cloves is the most dominant. Secondary, with one packet of cuvee. Tastes ok, but a sipping wine rather than chugging. I hope it mellows out over the next few months.

    1st Mead, just winging it.

Hello HBT, So I just started my first Mead. I took a recipe from a book called "Strong Waters." It talks about a 1 gallon recipe which I used a multiple of five. 12lbs honey, yeast nutrient, acid blend and grape tanin. And a spice bag of cloves, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. (Metheglin). I...

    Pot for extract brewing

A good large brew kettle was my best investment. But that being said, my friend bought a cheap 5 gallon pot at Oddlot. Like $17 (it's like a variety store that sells other stores over stock) The thin metal transfers more heat to the liquid and it always boils quick. It also has the space...

Any suggestions on creating a Pumpkin ale

Brew normal wheat ale, serve it in a pumpkin. Sadly, this is not me. I wish I thought of it first. I took it from THECHIVE website. As for mouthfeel, I'd add a pound of lactose.

I don't feat the foam, BUT...

I just wait a few minutes, then pour it out again. It usually takes most of the foam with it the second time.

    Local brew shops

I go to Cornells (True Value Hardware) once in a while. They have lots of things, but you're on your own, as most don't know anything about beer.

    Foam over

A wooden spoon across the rim helps, but not in a giant boil over.!

When can I crack one open?

Waiting for you first batch sucks, doesn't it.

    Starsan foam

The foam can't hurt you or the beer. I know aesthetically it's not as pleasing but it dissipates in a short amount of time.
