    Questions about brew in secondary

yeast rafts. Its hard to tell without a picture but most likley its fine. Its really hard to get infections if you clean and sanitize. Check this thread out https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/post-your-infection-71400/

5 star pbw and brew, contamination??

Did you mean star san or pbw. Pbw is a cleaner not a sanitizer. Star San is a sanitizer not a cleaner. Big differences between the 2.

    Emily Capper problem

I would get a bench capper. I love mine and it is easier and works better for me then my old wing capper.

    Brew Day!

Congrats! Scorching will happen. I use pbw because I have hard water and that works. You could also use oxyclean free.

So tell me if youve seen this before...

Its sounds like what happens when you get a really good cold break. I have never used irish moss but I use whirfloc tablets wich are the same thing and if I get a really fast cool I get a lot of stuff in my beer. Its normal and fine it will settle out after a couple weeks in the fermenter.

    Using molasses

Yeah you can also add corn sugar, regular table sugar, maple syrup, honey, malt extract, and anything else with sugar in it. Just cause you can up your gravity and boost your alcohol doesn't mean its a good idea though. It will effect how your beer is going to taste.

    Fail Safe First Time Homebrew

You could also call your buddies and see if they will come over and help brew. Its fun helping people brew. I help my buddy brew and bring over equipment so he doesn't have to buy everything right away. I would say get a kit from Austin homebrew if you drive past there. Never been there but...

Well, Got my first batch done

Your patient thats good.2 things for you. You don't need to take any more hydrometer readings because it isall done and wont change. Second you are reading your hydrometer wrong to figure out alcohol content. How you do it is by taking your original gravity (og), wich is what it was before you...

    Very little fermentation

In extract kits your og is already pretty much calculated for you. Steeping speciality grains add verry little to the gravity. I would take a gravity reading tommorow and see if it is the same.

    Very little fermentation

Never dump beer. Thats alcohol abuse! What were your ingredients we can figure out your og. What temp are you fermenting at?

Pitched yeast and fermention was a bust

I think you have beer but you are reading your hydrometer wrong. Take a reading on the side were it has 1.000 numbers right now then post your recipe and we can figure it out for you. Your reading will prohibit probably be between 1.010 and 1.020.

Pitched yeast and fermention was a bust

How are you calculating your alcohol? What are the numbers on the hydrometer? What was your recipe and was your wort hot when you put in your yeast?

    Starsan issue

On the bottle it says "for all applications allow to air dry (but surface must remain wet for at least one minute)." I Never let it dry and use all my equipment when it is still wet though and have never had an issue.
