    Knockout Tool Needed...

Just wanted to put a final post on this thread for anyone doing a future build and uses this for reference. The knockouts described above work perfectly. I bought a 13/16 & a 9/16 and both worked beautifully to make the recommended holes in my 20ga Blichmann Boilermakers, and were a fraction...

    Knockout Tool Needed...

Hunter306, it seems like it would be difficult to get the kind of torque needed to go through a stainless steel pot with just an allen wrench. Were you making your holes in stainless steel pots?

    Knockout Tool Needed...

Hello friends. Since I was last on this forum I have decided to go electric. I am in the middle of my build, wiring my panel up etc... My next step is to start popping holes in my pots. I need a couple of knockouts. One 13/16" and one 9/16" (both need to be chassis not conduit knockouts)...

    Gordon Strong's Holiday Prowler

I was in the middle of the boil when I realized their was no clear direction on these adjuncts. Thanks for all of the great feedback. As I was in the middle of the boil none of the advice was given before I had to make some decisions, so they were made on the fly. I added them all with 10...

    Gordon Strong's Holiday Prowler

Hello friends, I decided to make a holiday ale and chose Holiday Prowler from Gordan Strong's book Brewing Better Beer. The recipe does not indicate how to add the honey, Lyle's syrup, or the molasses. I am assuming it needs to be pasturized (at least the honey), and I am guessing it is added to...

    brewing around placer county Ca.

Cascadian Dark...interesting. I currently have a Heff on tap. In the fermentation tank I've got a Chocolate Stout, a Pumpkin Ale, and an experimental Wit. Next brew day for me is an Oktoberfest/Marzen. How often are you brewing?

    brewing around placer county Ca.

Just seeing your post. I am brewing in Lincoln. When I was in Brewmeister Roseville last Friday there was a club meeting. Don't remember the name, Placer County Brewers something-er-other. I am sure if you call the shop they could fill you in. I think it must be fairly new. I looked around for a...

    Beer Tools Pro

I am trying to decide what brewing software to purchase. I like Beer Tools but have one question. I found the water chemistry section in the recipe pull down, and I can find the different cities whose water they profile, but am unable to see where to make the additions and then see the result of...

    Brown Ale

American Brown, very nutty, lightly hopped but still very present, hint of crystal, dark in color. It is a great brew! If I have to drink store bought there is generally something from Lost Coast in the cooler. Especially Downtown.

    Brown Ale

Thanks for the lead. I guess I would just convert the extract into 2 row? What do you think? What would be the conversion ratio?

    Brown Ale

Ok friends, now that I have my tun built I am ready for my first all grain batch. I am going to make a brown. I am extremely fond of Lost Coast's Downtown Brown. Wondering if anyone who is familiar with Downtown knows of a recipe that is close. Thanks, j-dub

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Friends, I've been on the road all week and finally got back to the brewhouse on Saturday night. Spent an hour or so yesterday tweaking the set-up on my false bottom. I measured the liquid left over after another test and BINGO! Just 8 ounces left in the tun. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and...

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Thanks Bobby. I tried this with a 90 degree angle on the bottom side and still had the same affect. I have been testing with just a couple of gallons of water. Do you think I need to use more water in my test to create the siphon I need to pull more water from the tun?

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Thank you. I tried the tube from the ball valve. It didn't seem to have any affect, however now that I think of it I only tried it with a couple of gallons of water. Maybe I need more to create the pressure needed to maintain the siphon?

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Do you compensate with any extra grain or are you able to make recipes from others and hit OG/FG targets without changing the grain bill?

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Thanks everyone. To answer a couple of questions: Yes, I am planning to batch sparge initially. No I did not have a tube hooked up to the ball valve. Also, I am noticing that the connection to the false bottom is higher than the connection to the side of the cooler. Is this an issue as the fluid...

Too much liquid left in my mash tun?

Friends, after 6 months of extract brewing I am making the transition to AG! I have made a mash tun from a 10g Igloo cooler. I have made a false bottom from a piece of perforated stainless steel and put together some fittings, ball valve etc... I tested it tonight by filling it with a few...
