    My starter is boiling

Wonder what I will brew Sunday! I'm thinking of calling it Spontaneous Amber Ale as I still haven't figured anything out yet, but I want to make an amber :D

    2nd AG day much better

Preheating the mash tun proved huge for me. My temps were all over the place two weeks ago on my first all grain day. I thought Beersmith was accounting for the temp of the mash tun, but I think some things you just have to have dialed in on your own. Anyway, I hit the mash tun which had...

Anyone considering going all grain, do it!

Just finished up my first all grain brew, which is a Christmas Ale that I am thinking about adding plum and cinnamon in the secondary, and it was a blast! I won't bore your with all the details, but I have been cobbling my all grain setup together for a few months and just finished my cooler...

Thank you for a great debut!

Just wanted to drop a quick thanks to everyone in here for all their help and insight. I debuted my blonde ale and raspberry wheat ale at my fantasy football draft tonight and they were a big hit! Nothing like watching people crack one of your homebrews and then telling the guy next to them...

Bottle carb question- warm them back up?

I threw a 6 pack of my blonde ale in the fridge after 2 weeks and let them chill for a couple of days. I had a feeling it was probably going to be too soon, but I want to learn all the processes so I can better recogize them on my own. Anyway, it was too soon (haha!) and while the beer had...

    Addiction, obsession, or both?

So after a 10 year layoff (which I was still a rookie), I got back in the homebrew game 3 weeks ago. Brewing extract with specialty grains, things seems to be going great with my first batch, a blonde ale. I had the benefit of knowing the basics already, but now with tools such as HBT and...

    1st FG reading/tasting- very pumped!

Just took the first sample after 17 days in primary of my blonde ale (extract). Color right were I wanted it and very close to estimated FG (1.016). Taste is already smooth (though definitely green!) with a nice hoppy finish that I'm sure will mellow with time. I love it when a plan comes...

Just finished my first yeast starter

:tank: Always used dry yeast in the past, but I wanted to use Wyeast 1056 in my American Wheat Ale I'm brewing Sunday. Not bad at all really. It was like a mini brew day! Very addictive hobby! :)

    New brew in the D!

Well, in the suburbs of Detroit anyway. ;) After 3 kids in the last 9 years and lots of "I should get back into brewing again", I did just that last Saturday! I brewed just a couple of batches from extracts about 10 years ago, and I really should have stuck with it. Great to be back on the...
