    FG issue

I didn't realize any of that with yeast! I thought (wrong, obviously) that yeast reproduced in the batch, so one packet was always enough, a starter just got things going faster. Thanks for the info!

I may have measured my sg wrong if you think it should have been in the .08 range, I'm still not very good at making out the lines on my hydro yet

    FG issue

I started a stout 11 days ago and the final gravity has leveled off and I believe fermentation is done. The problem is it's 11 points off from the estimated FG (est 1.019-actual 1.030). Is this a problem or is it ok to miss it by that much? My abv is still at 5.3, I'm just not sure if I did...

    Patch job

So here's what happened... As I was putting the airlock on the lid of my primary for my current brew tragedy struck. As I was pushing it in, the rubber ring that locks and seals the airlock into the lid of my fermenting bucket came loose and fell into my batch. At first I panicked, but then I...

    Birthday Stout

Yeah I was going more for the sweet side. My friend likes to say he likes stouts but doesn't like all the bitterness or coffee flavors that make a stout, well, a stout. So I'm going a little off style to meet him in the middle. I really appreciate all the input, doing a recipe myself was more...

    Birthday Stout

With my original recipe beersmith showed estimates of: OG 1.078 FG 1.020 IBU 29.3 With the changes you suggested I get: OG 1.075 FG 1.019 IBU 38.4 The extra hops really helped add some flavor, a 9 pt jump just from adding those at the end. I didn't lose as much gravity as I thought I would by...

    What type of keg?

I work at a bar and may be able to get a great deal on our used kegs, but I'm not sure what the proper names for them are. They are your standard bar kegs where the coupler twists on to lock in place. From looking online I THINK these are Sanke(sp) kegs, can someone tell me for sure? If they are...

    Birthday Stout

Thanks for the advice! What about adding .5 oz of Spalt at 30 mins and .5 oz at 15?

    Birthday Stout

Hey guys, I'm wanting to make a stout for my friends birthday coming up. This is the first recipe I've written on my own, I've only done other people's recipes so far. Here is what I'm thinking of doing, will this turn out right or am I way off? 6.5 lb Pale LME 3.5 lb Dark LME 1.5 lb Black...
