    Gas release valve popped out

Not yesterday...it could have been any time between the last time I poured and today which is roughly 2 weeks. At the most, it happened 2 weeks ago and the beer has been exposed through the gas release valve hole being opened. You're right though. It has been on gas for at least 3 weeks, but all...

    Gas release valve popped out

I kegged about a month ago, and everything seemed fine for a week with co2 pressure (11 psi). I went to draw some beer out after the first week, and nothing came out. I opened my freezer, and all of my co2 was gone. I put a new co2 can in, and everything was great for 2 weeks. I would check...

    Washing / Reusing yeast

Thank you for the link! That brings up another question after seeing the picture in the link. How do you know if you have enough/too much yeast to pitch?

    Beer gun vs tap

I'm looking at getting a beer gun, but then I started wondering the real difference between that and running tubing from my tap into the bottle I want to fill. A beer gun isn't something that I would use all of the time. I started thinking that I could cap bombers or bottles to fill for family...

    Washing / Reusing yeast

Awesome...sounds easy enough! So, no stir plate before pitching, etc?

    Washing / Reusing yeast

All, I'm going to wash my yeast for the first time this week just to do something different. I've got an irish red in the fermenter now that I pitched US-05 into. Can I harvest this yeast like any other one? When I do get them transferred to mason jars, do I need to still create a...

    Stupid question - Brew Tree

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm going to not worry about doing this for now :) I didn't realize pumps were used for the side-by-side stands.

    Stupid question - Brew Tree

All, I've been brewing for about 4 years, and I've always done it like this: Heat water in brew pot, pour water in mash tun, dump grain in water, mash for 30. While mashing, I would heat sparge water in a different pot. When time to sparge, drain wort from tun to original brew pot, sparge...

Missed the mark on Mash volume

All, I missed the volume on the mash that I needed. I was about 8 cups shy of what I needed I believe. Can I fix this by adding more volume to sparge water? Thanks!

    Hop timing

All, I had a random thought today. Let's say I have two different types of hops (made up numbers): 5% AAU 10% AAU Which would bitter more at the following levels? 5% AAU = 60 minutes 10% AAU = 30 minutes I ask because I just did a porter and it came out a little more bitter than...

    Running stir plate on adapter

Did you happen to go to Texas brewing? That's where they had them around me. I didn't get one though. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Using Old Hops

I think I'll leave that addition out...I need to clean out my freezer :)

    Using Old Hops

All, I was going to brew today, and at the last minute I thought I'd use some hops that I have in the freezer along with new ones I bought yesterday. First of all, I have no idea how old these things are. They could be 3 or 4 years old. When I open them, I put the left over in a ziploc bag...

    Running stir plate on adapter

Thanks! The reason I ask is that the lhbs by us is going to be selling stir plates that are 220v. They ordered them by mistake and said they were going to sell them with an adapter. I'm still debating on if it's safe to leave these things running on an adapter straight for 24 hrs. I've used them...

    Running stir plate on adapter

Do any of you know (maybe electricians :)) if it's safe to run a 220v stir plate on a 110 adapter all of the time? Thanks!

    Late Hopping

All, This may be second nature to many of you, but I was curious so I started searching around. I'm drinking a Uinta Detour DIPA right now, and I have to say this is one of the best IPAs I've ever had. So much so, I had to try to find a clone, and I cannot find one. It's always been hard for...

    Mark your kettle?

I found another good thread on here yesterday. The poster measured a gallon into the gallon container (like milk jug) and marked it with sharpie where the liquid line was. They dumped that into the kettle and then marked that. Continued on until completed. I'm probably going to do that this...

    Mark your kettle?

Lol...this is the same exact article that prompted me to post this question. He says to use tape to mark it. I'm just wondering how accurate that can be...
