    No fermentation yet

I went home right after posting this thread, and wouldn't you know, the airlock was just bubbling away. Isn't that the way it always happens? When you finally ask about it, it takes care of itself. Thanks everyone for the advice/help! There were a lot of good comments I wouldn't have thought...

    No fermentation yet

Thanks for the advice! I am basing this off never seeing the airlock rise. It has been flat against the opening everytime I look at it. I will take another reading and see if it's still at OG.

    No fermentation yet

I brewed my next batch this past Saturday. Everything seemed pretty spot on in my measurements and my OG turned out pretty close to what I thought it would be. After cool down, I realized I didn't pull my WLP300 out of the fridge yet. The label says pull it out 3-6 hours before. I let it sit...

    Bacon Beer

Hey everyone! I really want to try to make a bacon beer. I love beer and I love bacon, so why not both together? I wanted to get anyone's thoughts on what type of beer would make the best bacon beer and then anything else you think would make it awesome. Let me hear it! Thanks!!

    Kentucky

I am new to brewing as well. I'm not sure of clubs in the area, but I would definitely recommend My Old Kentucky Homebrew. They are knowledgeable and friendly. Not a huge store, but has a lot. They are located on Story Ave, which is near downtown. There is also another store in the east...

    Feelin' Hoppy?

Thanks for all the information guys! My first attempt of going out on my own was for a Summer Ale. I had Light LME and Wheat DME with the addition of some honey. I ended up grabbing Tettenger (4.8%), Fuggle (4.3%) and Liberty (4.2%) hop pellets and added some lemon zest at the end.

    Feelin' Hoppy?

Quick education on hops, please. I have used two kits (English Brown Ale & Continental Pilsner) that specifically call out the Bittering, Aroma and Flavoring Hops. If I am making my own recipe, what is best to use for bittering, flavoring and aroma? Do I look for a high acid % for bittering...

Low SG, what can I do to help final ABC?

OK, thanks guys! Come to think of it I'm not sure I stirred it after adding the water to bring the fermenter to 5 gallons.

Low SG, what can I do to help final ABC?

Yes, I have brewed it. I used a total of 24 oz grains (8 Wheat, 16 caramel malt), 3.3 lbs Light LME, 3/8 cup honey, 2 lbs Wheat DME, 1 oz Tettenger hop pellets, 1 oz Fuggle hop pellets, 1 oz Liberty hop pellets and I added the zest of 1 lemon.

Low SG, what can I do to help final ABC?

Hi all! I'm new to the forums, but have heard great things about this board. I am 1.5 batches into my brewing "career" (1st, English Brown Ale; 2nd Continental Pilsner). The brown ale was a kit as well as the pilsner. Last night I decided to go off the beaten path and make my own recipe...
