    Phase Angle Control Vs. PID

For about 8 bucks you can add a PWM dail and just switch over to it when you want, here is my panel:

    Phase Angle Control Vs. PID

I use a pid for my hlt control and a pwm dial for my boil, works very well!

    Phase Angle Control Vs. PID

I think PID works very well for temp control, do you really need any tighter control than PID?

    Teeny Tiny E-Build

Thanks, I love the simplicity and speed of the dial for boil control. I used my wifes label printer for the tags (black on clear tape). It looks pretty good. I did use a sharpie for the arrows. Tonight is my first test run, I hope I dont let any smoke out!

    Teeny Tiny E-Build

Well, my tiny box was just too small and I burned out my second ssr, I assume it overheated... So I decided to buy a little bigger box and rebuild my controller a bit nicer! I added a pump switched outlet and some status lamps. I plan on putting a fan inside to keep her cool... I am excited...

Idea to cut boil time - Thoughts?

Another possible use would be to conserve space in my boil and mash tun for bigger beers. I would not have to account for the extra 2+ gallons of boil off water.. Perhaps it would mess up my efficiency??? Hmmm

Idea to cut boil time - Thoughts?

I will give it a try. Its not so much about saving time, as it would be having the ability to break it up and do more the night before. It would be nice to be able to brew in less than 2 hours start to finish on brew day.. I would think I would do all my hop additions except the 5 minute one...

Idea to cut boil time - Thoughts?

I was thinking if I were to take a large sauce pan on the stove and boil it for an hour adding my hop additions per my recipe the night before. Cool the water in the fridge overnight. Then on brew day I would mash and sparge like normal but only boil my wort for 5 minutes to kill any nasties...

    pH meter recommendations?

If you are worried about accuracy, you would not buy a $75 ph meter in the first place. NIST traceability is simply comparing the readings of the ph meter to a calibration standard (this standard is traceable all the way back to the gov't NIST labs) and verifying that the instrument is as...

    pH meter recommendations?

NIST stands for National Institute of Standards and Technology. Its third party proof that the tester is meeting the accuracy claims by the manufacturer. If you are an ISO9000 facility you are required to have this on any equipment you use, if you dont know what it is you do not need it as it...

Corona mill is a piece of junk!

I use one every time I brew, works great! I just use a garbage bag and wrap it around the mill to catch everything...

How much do you pay for bottles?

I buy red hook 22oz bottles of esb and ipa for around $2.30 each, drink the beer and keep the bottles. The redhook labels come off and the glue disolves with a soak in hot pbw, very easy!

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    24,606 + 5 = 24,611
  16. R

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I finally made this recipe last night, its in a 15 gal plastic conical fermentor and just barely bubbling this morning. Does the Montrechet yeast usually start slow?? I am use to ale yeast with starters really taking off and huge krausens!

Plum Wine, Complete newb! Save me from myself!

I just made a test batch of plum wine that was simply a couple pounds of plums cut up and mixed with water. Then pressed thru a strainer. I didnt have any wine yeast so I tossed in some dennys fav 50 ale yeast and away it went. Three days with a nice krausen and tons of airlock activity. Now...
