    BiaB in a keggle

+1 on tapered bag. If you can custom build your bag it's very worth it to suit your particular set up.

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

Any thoughts/notes/propsed revisions from this season's batch? I've been looking around for a good recipe and think estricklin here is on the right track. I plan to brew something up this weekend to hopefully have some ready for those long and hot late august in texas days. I plan to go AG...

    Summer brewing in Texas

I'm currently using my kegerator to lager/cold condition/serve from. I have a window unit in my bedroom that I'm keeping in the 60's with a stout in ambient and a hefe in a trash can filled with water that I add ice packs to. It won't be long before that window unit can't keep up so I'm brewing...

    Fruit Beer Blood Orange Hefeweizen

is there anything crucial about when the orangeade and second yeast get mixed in? i made a big starter with a stir plate and pitched at high krausen so it didn't take long to get things moving. I pitched 48 hours ago. Yesterday the yeast were rockin an rollin, thanks for the heads up on the...

    Fruit Beer Blood Orange Hefeweizen

Do you suppose upping the amount of orange zest would add more of that fresh orange citrus kick?

    Fruit Beer Blood Orange Hefeweizen

How strong is the orange flavor in the original recipe? I'm planning to brew a batch this weekend. For reference: If I get a Blue Moon at that bar I'll squeeze as much orange as I can get into it. I think the orange flavor is more pronounce with Shock Top but i still add plenty to it. I'm...

What would you do with these ingredients?

Sorry to bring back a dead post, but apparently this got a reply not too long ago. That beer was actually great. I really couldn't tell you exactly what I did with it but IIRC I pretty much added some of each of the grains. I believe I went lighter on the honey malt as was suggested. I was...

Pitching process for dry lager yeast like Saflager

I've got a lager going now. I rehydrated Saflager W-34/70 yeast at about 50F then pitched into 55F wort. I know the directions say to rehydrate in the 70's but I figured since it ferments at 50F and you can get away with pitching straight that it wouldn't hurt too much. After 30 minutes the...

Is my Maibock ready for the Diacetyl rest?

How much did you pitch? I started my first lager 7 days ago. OG was 1.067. I pitched (3) 11.5g dry packs, rehydrated and pitched at ferm temp. Just took a reading and gravity is at 1.016. I don't expect it to go any lower. 3 packs sounds like a lot but according to the calculators I was...

What would you do? Diacetyl rest or cold crash it?

I'm working on a "Texas Bock" styled brew. The aim was for something similar to Shiner but with a little more ABV Ingredients: ~4lbs Munton's Bock LME 2.0 lb Light DME 2.5 lb Dextrose 0.75 lb Crystal 120L steeped @ 165 ~60 min Topped carboy off with water to a little over 5.0 gal mark Pitched...

    Garbage Can Fermentation Chamber

nah, its a swamp cooler if you blow a fan over it for evaporative cooling...but i'm not...evaporative cooling would just add more latent load to my poor little apartment air handler, which is already undersized half a ton...so, no thanks...besides, the commercial grade kegerator is already...

    Garbage Can Fermentation Chamber

yeah....derrrr....i got to thinking about that after i posted....not a real wise choice in thread header.....

    Garbage Can Fermentation Chamber

FYI - the 20 gallon Rubbermaid "Roughneck" trashcan makes a great little chamber for holding a carboy. It holds my 6 gallon glass and the airlock still fits with the lid on. I think there is probably less than an inch of clearance between the airlock and the top of the lid....so it fits...

Which Extract Kit Should I get

I did a Cooper's Wheat for my first beer. It's more and American Style light wheat, it doesn't have the body and hoppy/flowery flavor that Blue Moon tends to have. I added too much water to it (newb mistake...took the OG reading from the bottom, wasn't mixed well, came out high, added water...

What would you do with these ingredients?

Cool....thanks for your opinion....that's actually pretty much what i had in mind. after some reading, thinking, and sticking my nose in the bags a couple times.... the grains are separated out. i thought about 1/4# chocolate, 1/4# honey, then 1/2# victory.....seems like it would get a nice...

What would you do with these ingredients?

Thanks for the info... I'm not looking to go all grain just yet. Adding some steeped grains to the LME is exactly what I'm considering. I've thought about the idea of brewing side-by-side batches, one of the base kit and the other with some personal tweaks. I like the idea. However, I live...

What would you do with these ingredients?

Hello... I'm new to brewing and planning my 3rd brew. My first two were the Cooper's wheat and the Munton's Bock. I followed the directions on both and they came out nice, no infections, weird flavors, or major mishaps. I feel like I've got my sanitation and fermentation temperature control...
