    Best Stainless Conical???

Brewers hardware conicals hold pressure! Here is a pict of mine with their 15 psi PRV, it holds it closer to 13 psi. I pushed mine to 25 psi. Bet it could go a lot higher than that.

    Electric conversion

I know I am chiming in late here but went I brew i start out with almost 18 gallons of wort at the start of the boil and I use a 4500W element to heat it to boil. One thing to remember is that wile you are spaging into your boil kettle once your element is covered I turn it on and start heating...

    Brewhemoth glycol chiller test

The armaflex looks exactly like what I am using, even the backing looks the same. One thing I would say abut it is that it is supposed to be used in a stationary location. It rips easy, I am going to cover mine in black duct tape to protect the insulation.

    Brewhemoth glycol chiller test

Here is a product sheet, scroll down to the thickness vs temp and relative humidity. http://www.insulation.org/mtl/pdfs/001028_474.pdf Basically if the outside temp is 85 degrees whit a humidity of 70% and your tank wall is 32 degrees you need 3/4 of an inch to stop condensation. cover as much...

    Glycol chiller build

To all of you that want to make a Glycol Chiller big enough to chill 6.5 gallons of wort from 212 to 68 degrees F in 10 mins on the fly with no reservoir, like a plate chiller does, you need a 46,000 btu of cooling power or a 3.8 ton ac unit. I think they sell for around 5 grand. You can use a...

    Brewhemoth glycol chiller test

One thing I can say for sure, and it has already been mentioned with the sleeping bag. If there is not and air tight bond between the metal and the insulation there will be condensation. I used the nomaco kflex sheets found here: [URL="http://www.zorotools.com/s/?q=Insul-Sheet+S2S+Insulation"]...

    Brewer's Hardware Kettles

Man when I built my setup it was blichmann or polarware, I would love a stout or brewers hardware but they need a liquid level like blichmann's. I have punched holes in my blichmann for a herms setup and used cam locks. I can pretty much pump wide open since the cam locks are so restrictive. I...

    Kegerator help!

On a regular 1/2 barrel keg is it a little harder to measure the pressure than on a 5 gallon keg. I hooked my gas line up to the keg and slowly turned up my gas until I could just start to hear gas going into the keg. When I clean my taps I use PBW and totally disassemble the tap and brush it...

    Hop Rocket/Randalizer tips

Well I have put a hop rocket inline with my keg yesterday and after pulling a few pints through it the "grassy" taste died down. I used a wheat beer that had very little hops in it and the aroma and taste was amped up. I don't know how people say that dry hopping adds no bitterness as this is...

    Kegerator help!

What is your kegerator temp and what PSi are you running you CO2? I have done the same thing before with a half barrel of stone arrogant bastard. For me I let the keg sit in the cooler for a week before I tapped it, and at 36 degrees I measured the keg pressure at 23 PSI, over carbonated. They...

    Stout Issues

I think that aging ales in a refrigerated environment does not allow the yeast and oxygen to mature the beer, yes there is some oxygen still in the beer after fermenting. Think of wine aging, it is cellared from 55 to 73 degrees F. the temperature determines max shelf life. The higher the temp...

    Stout Issues

Ok here is my go to stout recipe for 10 gallons. I have a few bottles that are 3 years old (last tasting was at the two year mark) My wife and I drink one on our anniversary and I can say that at the 2 year mark it was fantastic. The beer really needs at least 6 months in the bottle to even be...

    DIY Cost-Effective Immersion Wort Chiller

That might work out well for 5 gallons. I have a plate chiller that I use, I am brewing 16.5 gallons at a time. I used to use a 25 foot copper coil and the chill time was around 1 hour. The plate chiller will, in the winter, drop 16.5 gallons to 68F from boiling in about 11 min. About at fast as...

    Fridge-less Kegerator?

This is a pretty old post so I dont think I am hi-jacking it or anything. But I have been conserding something like this for a Fermenter cooler. The idea would be to rip apart an AC window unit and remove the cold coils and in their place put in a plate chiller. The plate chiller would have...
