Converting a steam kettle to gas burner

Is it possible to convert a kettle from steam jacketed to something I can use with a burner? My brother has 4 he pulled from a job site. I'd love to have one of them, but I'm not going to waste my time if I can't use them.

4 Stainless Steam Jacketed Kettles 20 gal, 40 gal, 60 gal

If anyone is either starting a small brewery, or just wants an awesome project, my brother pulled 4 steam jacketed kettles out of a job site. Sitting in his shop in Charleston SC and doing him absolutely no good sitting there. These were still connected when he went in, and it's assumed they...

    Brew Sculpture Project!!

OK, I've been an extract brewer for the past 4 years. I've done one all grain batch that turned out ok, but, I didn't get near the effenciency that I needed, therefore my gravity was wayyy under what it should have been. I'm not positive when I'll do another allgrain batch, but I just scored a...

    Full vs partial boil

I've just thought about this question. I usually order kits from B3 or AHB. The instructions in their kits are for partial boils. Last night I did a mild stount from B3, but instead of partial, I started w/ 6.5 gallons of water, and the siphon started sputtering at exactly the 5 gal mark...

    Using oxygen to cool wort

I was chatting with a buddy last night about airating with an oxygen system and he said something that peaked my interest. I assume that the oxygen bottles you buy at the hardware store for this system is compressed O. When compressed gas is released, it's very cold. My question, could...

Great deal on a 10 gal cooler

All I need is a new burner to get 13+ gal boiling and I'm going all grain. Stopped by the Coleman factory outlet today to see what they had. Picked up a 10 gal beverage cooler for $30. It was an overrun for some Old Spice sports theme or something. Who cares, it's a liquor tank now. This...

    Magnetic induction cooktops

I'm going to be at my moms house this week and plan on doing a brew one night. She's got two magnetic induction burners, and they're unbelievable at boiling speghetti water, so I bet they'll be great for brewing too. Just wondering if anyone else has experience w/ these burners?

    Starting a Craft Brewery

I know we have at least one member that's starting his own craft brewery. Is there anyone else out there that is doing more than just dreaming about it? Personally, I'm starting my business plan and doing the numbers for it. Looks like it's not the best time to start one, with the increases...

    Keg Score!!!!!!!

Well, not quite a Craigslist score, but just as good. A buddy of mine has some connections at the local Pepsi plant. He just called me today to let me know his buddy thinks he has a few cornies at the plant and they're all mine. Can't wait!!!!! This is a lesson to all you youngsters out...

    Has anyone used U2CANBREW.COM???

Anyone familiar or have experience with u2canbrew.com? They're an online HBS. They seem to have very cheap prices on their kits. $24 for a kit. Their mix and match kit includes 7#'s LME, 1.5#'s specialty grains, up to 4oz hops and a Wyeast smack pack of yeast. That's pretty much what others...

Can I add yeast after kegging?

I just tried a hefe that I brewed a few weeks ago. I left it in primary for a week and a half, then just kegged it w/out checking the fg. Now that I've actually tried it, it's very sweet, and just doesn't taste like it finished fermenting. Can I take it out of the fridge and add yeast to it...

    Shelf life of unfermented wort

An earlier post has me thinking. What is the shelflife of unfermented wort? If I brewed 3 or 4 batches of a hefe, or something else, can I keep some in a carboy or bucket w/out adding yeast, then add to the yeast cake after the one in primary is transferred to secondary or the keg? Figuring...

    Good warm weather football brew

Any ideas on a good warm weather football brew that I can keg and take to tailgating? Tailgating for the Gamecocks is usually a 85-95 degree 5 hour affair. Need something that'll go down smooth in the heat, but won't get people too bombed early on. Oh, and no wheat beers. I love them, but...

Add this up for me. May have been overchargeed

Went to LHBS at lunch to pick up some stuff. Bill came to $106, which I'm pretty sure is about $20-30 more than it should have been. 1 American Hefe kit $23.95 1 wyeast pack $6.75 1 portable CO2 corny charger $21.95 10 16gr CO2 canisters $1.45ea 1 picnic tap 1 ball lock MFL gas...

    Priming keg w/ sugar

Probably been asked before, but I couldn't really find a good answer. I'm going to keg my hefe tonight instead of bottling it. However, I do not have a CO2 tank yet. Should I throw in priming sugar to prime it tonight when I keg it? It'll probably be another week before I get the CO2 tank...

Anyone need a cheap 30qt aluminum pot

Anyone out there need a cheap 30qt aluminum pot? Actually, I'm not 100% positive it's 30 qt, but it is about 6" taller than my 20qt stainess pot and my pot will fit inside it as well, so it's a guestimate. Came w/ a turkey fryer about 8 years ago, so not the usual piece of crap that they come...

Got my fridge, kegs, and beer

Well, my new tenants at my rental had their own fridge. So, guess what? The old one's going to be my new beer fridge. Don't think I'm going to make it a kegerator yet as I'd like to do the chest freezer deal. So, now, I've got the fridge, 4 kegs, regulator and a hefe in primary. I'm...

    Used growlers worth it???

I was at a antique store the other day and saw a growler that had some German writing on it, don't remember exactly what it was, and it was resealable. Is this worth picking up? Could it be cleaned and reused? I didn't thoroughly inspect it, but it seemed to be metal, not glass. I think...

Smacked pack, then waited 2 weeks

Well, a couple weeks ago, I smacked my yeast pack, left it at room temp for 2 days, realized I couldn't brew for a while, then threw it in fridge. 2 weeks later, took it out of fridge, let get to room temp for 24 hrs. Pitched it, and 6 hrs later had ferment going. Moral of story, smacked...
