    Lost my foam stopper

@IslandLizard - This worked perfectly. I sanitized the exterior of my flask, and aluminum foil and ended up with a very active yeast starter. Fermentation in the primary is doing very well. Sorry - when I said blow-off preventer, I meant air-lock

    Lost my foam stopper

Hello forum, I'm making a 1000ml yeast starter and lost my foam stopper for my flask. Is it safe to use my blow-off preventer? Or is there another best method until I can order a new stopper? Any advise would be appreciated. Best Regards,

    Keg Conditioning

Excellent. Everything turned out perfect. We tapped it yesterday actually and everyone who tired it said to make it again. I'm very happy with the results. Thanks for your help/advice and for checking in.

    Beer in my regulator.

Thanks for the link. I have this exact same regulator, but a single unit. This is a good example of how I disassembled the regulator but without the help of the exploded view. These regulators are a lot less scary then people make them out to be. They are mechanical but if someone isn't...

    Beer in my regulator.

It was a stupid mistake on my part. I wanted to carbonate the beer while conditioning a couple weeks in the keg so I connected the gas line. But I connected the gas to the wrong post. As I was thinking about the force needed to make the connection, I didn't remember it being that hard to...

    Beer in my regulator.

Well, so far so good. I have complete control over the sensitivity of the pressure. The second gauge seems to be measuring the volume in the Co2 tank properly. Nothing sticks and my keg is under pressure again; no leaks. My only concern is that I have a tiny bit of moisture in the gas line...

    Beer in my regulator.

Well, I just took as much of the regulator apart as I could and everything seems to be ok. I ran some water through the body of the regulator without any gauges or the pressure release valve and dried it the best I could by blowing air through all the openings. Nothing is sticking and it all...

    Beer in my regulator.

No. Not into the gauges. Well, at there was no beer floating inside the gauges. I took them both apart and they were dry. Not sure if any got in the tiny hole on the brass nub, but I don't think so. Do you with some gentle cleaning I'll be good?

    Beer in my regulator.

Well, I have problems taking it apart to clean it. Nothing appears to have gone into the gauges. I rinsed out my gas lines and am letting them dry. So I will see if I can salvage this regulator. I'm rather embarrassed and am thinking, if I only shut the valve off before the regulator, I would...

    Beer in my regulator.

Have a MicroMatic dual gage regulator. I got beer in it. Poured right out of it. What can I do to fix it?

    Keg Conditioning

Excellent. Thank you. It's been 24 hours since I kegged. I didn't purge or carbonate last night but just did it now. Think it will be ok still?

    Keg Conditioning

Just moved my brew from the secondary to the keg for conditioning. I plan to let it sit for a couple weeks. Should I have the keg carbonated during this time?

Results of My First Yeast Starter

Here is a shot of my very first yeast starter about 5 minutes after pouring the yeast into the flask. The other shot is fermentation after 24 hours. I'm brewing a Chinook IPA from Northern Brewer. The yeast is Wyeast 1056 American Ale smack pack. I allowed the pack to warm up and inflate for...

    Weight of Water

I'm not trying to make this more complex then it needs to be. I simply wanted to measure 5.57 gallons of water with some degree of accuracy. For my own peace of mind and to teach myself consistency. I'm doing a brewery tour in October and I will ask the professionals how they measure out...

    Weight of Water

No scientific experiment, but don't I want to get in the habit of being consistent? What if I make a great batch and want to repeat it over and over again? Regardless of yield, but for the purposes of consistent taste, wouldn't I want to know as accurately as possible my steps so I could...

    Weight of Water

I'm about to brew my third batch (Chinook IPA) from Northern Brewer. I realized it required a 5.57 gallon boil size. Curious to know how to measure out exactly 5.57 gallons, I searched the forum and came across a thread mentioning professional breweries measure water by weight. The more I...

    Newb question fermentation fridge

I have a 20 year old GE Fridge that works fine. I have the Johnson Controls temp controller and it allows me to ferment in Texas when it's 110°. So I would think any fridge will work as long as its big enough to hold your carboy or fermentation bucket. I took out the crispers at the bottom...
