    Starter Feedback

I made a starter Tuesday night with some expired Wyeast kolsch yeast. Well, it FINALLY started to krausen today. Talk about a lag time. It was 1000ml of water with 100g of light DME. I haven't smelled it or anything yet, my g/f sent me a picture earlier. Do you think I should use it in my brew...

    Willamette and Northern Brewer Hops

I am a big fan of mixing varieties of hops when I brew. I have a butt load of Willamette and Northern Brewer hops and I was thinking about mixing the 2 together. Thoughts? Styles? I was thinking brown or porter, but I'm interested in what you all have to say. Discuss.

    You live, you learn

I took a keg of IPA to a tailgate over the weekend. I knew going into it that a lot of hops made it into the keg out of the fermenter, but I figured they would just come out in the first couple pints. Well I fought a clogged keg all day long, taking off the gas, pulling the release valve and...

Anyone have a good recipe using Willamette

I just bought a bunch of willamette from farmhousebrewingsupply.com cause it was dirt cheap with the deal he had today. Anyways I have been looking for a recipe (AG) that uses a fair amount of it and I haven't had much luck. There's a new brewery here that has a great red ale using willamette so...

    Holiday Ale Help

Ok, So I tried my first Holiday Ale a few weeks ago. I tried it yesterday and it's not terrible, but I think it could use some help. The nutmeg or ginger (or both) is the dominant flavor and it tastes a little dry which probably doesn't help the first issue. Any ideas what I could do to tweak...

    one year ago today...

I can't find if this has been posted already. I couldn't find anything through the mobile site, but Greenwood Rover died one year ago today. I think about when I read the message from his wife and the way the community here came together for his sons every once in a while. I just wanted to say...

    Small Scale Hops Growing

I saw an article somewhere that showed how to grow hops in buckets, at least to get them started. I thought it was in BYO, but for the life of me I cannot seem to locate it. Does this sound remotely familiar at all to anyone? Can someone direct me back to that article if so? I picked up a...

    When did you stop counting?

Last night I brewed batch #50. I am very proud of this fact. Anyways, the first brewing book I read suggested numbering your batches so you could differentiate batches by the number on the cap. I have been kegging for over a year now, but I still find myself numbering each batch. I seem to...
