I understand where you're coming from, but there are other reasons people might want to see the ingredients before they purchase a kit. I, for one, am allergic to rye and end up only purchasing those kits that I am positive will not contain it (which means I purchase very few kits from AHS)...

Did you happen to taste it before you racked onto the strawberries? I'm wondering if this recipe has any tartness in and of itself, before the berries. Although, I see that you used a different yeast than the S-04 so yours might be a bit different anyways...

I brewed this 2 weeks ago, and just racked over to secondary on top of 4 pounds of frozen strawberries today. I undershot my OG (1046), but I'm fine with that given I was trying to make a nice summer session beer. I have a question, though, about the taste of the blonde ale prior to racking...

Update! Today marked 10 days in the primary, and as I mentioned earlier I decided to let it sit for the 10 days (as opposed to 6 days in primary and 4 in secondary suggested by the recipe) and then taste for any off-flavors. Beer tasted great and held at 1014 FG, albeit hoppier than intended...

If your SG was 1058 both before the boil and after, then something is definitely inaccurate in the measuring area. I would be sure to calibrate the hydrometer and always make sure to have an accurate sample to measure from.

Maybe the wort wasn't mixed well, leading to a heavier sample drawn for the hydrometer? Does the 5.75 gallons include any top-off water? If so you might not have mixed it well with the wort, getting an inaccurate denominator for dividing the potential gravity points. For example, if you...

It depends on how many grains you're using ... Can you give some specifics? I've seen most people on HBT recommend 1-2 quarts per pound of grain ... Then you sparge until you have your desired boil volume.

What temperature was your after boil reading taken at?

I don't think it really matters, as long as you give the 1 lb. of sugar time to dissolve completely in the boil ... No matter what, I don't believe the sugar will be evaporated no matter how long you boil.

Haha, I'm there with ya! What AG kits did you buy? Let us know how they turn out. My first and only brew was an oatmeal stout that I brewed from the ground up (only had an AG recipe to start with), but I'm interested in AG kits if they can simplify things without adding to the cost.
