    Stout mash temps

I was looking at brewing my first stout this week and I find most mash at 156-158. Is there a reason for mashing at such high temps? Looking at brewing the Ó Flannagáin Standard Should be a good winter brew! Thanks for the help.

    CFC technique?

How are you guys running your counter flow chillers? I use a march pump and just run a slow amount through the chiller directly into my carboy. Should I recirculate back into the boil kettle until the temp of all the wort is lower and then transfer the wart to the carboy? Basically I think it...

My fellow Canadians help me pick my next brew

My wife grew up in Canada and loves Molson Dry. I have never had it and we cant get it down here in the US. I would like to brew up something similar for her because she just doesn't like the IPA hoppyness that I enjoy. Any suggestions?

Just took a sip from a 1964 PBR

YUCK! Ok, beer doesn't age as well as wine. I was cleaning out my grandpa's house and found a 12 pack in his basement. Don't think I will be drinking any more of them...

Cascade St. Brewery up and running on E

Well the electricity was flowing at Cascade St. Brewery yesterday. Got the inaugural brew done and I must say it was much faster than when I used Propane. The timers and alarms are so nice to have. Just set them and go get other things done while you wait. The electrical panel is not complete...

    Problems with my Volt Meter

Ok. So I finally got a new volt meter from the one that didn't work (or may have blown with my bad 5v DC transformer). Anyway it is all hooked up and it won't read correct voltage. It hovers around 0v. I have it wired just like Kal does in his diagram. I have also tried to wire it to the hot...

If I do it again ... forget the AMP and Volt Meters!

These things are junk! I am about half way through the build and was testing my meters out and noticed the Volt meter powers up, but doesn't read voltage. The AMP meter never worked to begin with... Even one of the adjustable DC converters didn't even work. New stuff is on the way but...

    March 809 valve question

Anyone use regular 1/2" valves (not the full port) with the 809? Do you have any problems or is this size valve ok to use? I just have the regular valves on my pots and dont want to replace them all.

    Seriously reconsidering going all grain

Ok, so I am new to brewing and did an 5 gal extract brew for my first brew and decided to go all grain for my second batch. Holy moly this was a lot of work. I hope the finished product turns out. I think if I continue with all grain I will be doing 10 gal batches (little more work, lots more...
