why does my beer taste like butt

Sure it wasn't a brown ale?

Bottled for 7 weeks and still low carbonation

Well I added the sugar water after I had racked about 2 inches into the bottling bucket. I assumed the continued racking was gonna mix the sugar for me in there, that may be my problem. I have opened most of the bottles by now but started drinking them after about 2 weeks. I haven't noticed...

Bottled for 7 weeks and still low carbonation

I'm trying to figure out if I did something wrong. I brewed the Morebeer American Ale as my first brew 9 weeks ago today. Fermented for 2 weeks at 65deg with WLP001 yeast. It had an OG of 1.046 and FG of 1.010. I used 4 oz of corn sugar as my bottling sugar for about 4.5 gallons. I bottle...

    any good IPA extracts?

I used WLP001 (white labs California ale yeast) without a starter, which according to what I have read is not enough yeast. I didn't even shake the vial before adding it to the fermenter as it says I am supposed to do. I pretty much did everything wrong on this brew and it still turned out...

    any good IPA extracts?

I did 3 weeks total in the primary before bottling, and dry hopped the last week. My OG was low (1.069, supposed to be 1.076-80), but it might have had to do with how I took the reading. I used the wine thief to take the sample from the boil kettle instead the fermenter. I was thinking the wort...

    I have 2 Morebeer IPA recipes. Rogue's I2PA 12lbs LME 1oz Magnum 60min 1oz Cascade 30min 1oz Willamette 15min 1oz Amarillo S05 or WLP001 Drake's IPA 9lbs. LME .5lb Light DME 1.25lbs Crystal 15L 1lb Crystal 40L 1oz Cascade 70min 1oz Cascade 55min .5oz Magnum 0min 1oz...

    any good IPA extracts?

I did the Rogue I2PA as my first ever homebrew and am just enjoying them now. I think it's really good but it could be a little hoppier. But that's probably has to do more with my technique than with the kit. I tied the the hop bags tight around the hops as opposed to tying the bags at the top...

Any reason not to reuse commercial bottles?

Dump your Stone bottles in a double strength solution of star san for a day, the paint comes right off. I use steel wool on them after they have soaked but it's not really even necessary, they would come off with a sponge.

Any reason not to reuse commercial bottles?

I agree the Firestone labels are tough, but ever try and get one of these off? Biggest pain in the ass ever.

    San Fran for the weekend...suggestions..

Go to the city beer store. It's a weird little spot that's like a retail beer store but you can drink there. Huge selection of micros and imports, as well as a handful of craft brews on tap. Cool spot. http://www.citybeerstore.com/

    dry hop without a bag?

I like the method of using the large nylon bag in the bottling bucket. I might have to go out to lowes and by a paint strainer.

    dry hop without a bag?

I've read a lot of people seem to throw the pellet hops right into the carboy, but I'm not sure if I need to strain the wort when racking into my bottling bucket. If I do need to strain the wort, what is the best way?

    Double IPA with no starter

Thanks for the replies, not positive what my OG was off the top of my head, it's written down at home. I remember it was less that what it was supposed to be. I think the expected OG was like 1.075-1.080 and I had like 1.067 at 75deg which I think means like 1.069 corrected. I like the idea of...

    Double IPA with no starter

I brewed my first 2 batches the weekend before last, the American Ale and Rogue I2PA from MoreBeer. They gave me a vial of white labs California yeast for each batch. Since I started reading this forum I've heard you need to use starters for liquid yeast with high gravity beers. I'm worried...
