    compost question

I have a huge pile of old hay and goat and llama poo from cleaning out my shelter and hay feeder after winter. I'm guessing it consists of 400-600 pounds of hay. Once it starts breaking down I should have a very nice supply of compost for all my needs. Should be getting some chicken soon so...

    Nasty Accident at work!

Yesterday I had an employee come literally within inched of being killed at a construction project we are working on at a power plant. He was sitting on the tailgate of the truck when the boom of the concrete pumper truck came down on our truck. Just a few inches could have meant the...

I was wondering how many of you out there had ever eaten fried pumpkin blossoms? My family has been fixing them as long as I can remember. Its kind of hit or miss around here of people who have had them before. Just wanted to see how many others had had them. :D

Too late to purchase hop rhizomes?

I know I waited to late in the year to decide to grow my own hops and probably wouldnt get much from them this year if I do plant some. I would like to try to get some in the ground this year so they will atleast be established for a good harvest next year. My question is, does anyone know any...

    Is this normal??

Sounds like everything is going good. That layer of foam on top is the krausen and is normal in this stage of fermentation. As long as it tastes good then everything should be ok. Good luck with your first brew!!

    The refrigerator ate my yeast.

I found a vial of East Coast ale in my fridge that was 4 months past its prime. Made a good starter with it and pitched it and all went just fine. Very short lag time and strong fermentation. I think they will last a few months after their best by dates as long as they are properly...

    Dry Hopping Question

I was just getting ready to ask the same question--to bag or not to bag. I didn't bag last time I dry hopped and it was a PITA when I racked. Think I'll try the bag method this time.

    Blow off tube

I use a couple of wraps of eletrical tape around the end of my 1" tube. It's kind of rubbery so it make a good seal and its easy to adjust the fit.

    Ale Vs. Lager!!!

I usually explain it as ales having a more complex, sometimes fruity and sweeter, taste and more body and lager being more of a clean malt flavor. That usually works for someone who's only beer knowledge is BMC

    What the Fermentation????

I made an extract brown ale for my first brew. I think I had it in the primary for about 7 days then in the secondary for about 10 before I bottled it. Worked fine for me. That was before I could measure the gravity so I relied on the activity of the airlock-1 bubble or less a minute. Sounds...
