Received my water report from Ward Labs.

I have well water so no chlorine present. Also, I'm very surprised to learn I have soft water. I assumed being in the mountains with well water, it would be the opposite. Before I had the water test done, I tried a quick and dirty method of testing water hardness by using castille soap in my...

Received my water report from Ward Labs.

I know nothing about water modification. I'll be studying up on the subject soon. I add nothing, as I don't even know where to start. Do you have a recommendation on how I should tweak this water? And to other questions, I shouldn't have said "lacking" I suppose. They just seem to have an off...

Received my water report from Ward Labs.

I've moved and my last few beers that I've made with strictly my water here have been lacking. Suspecting a water issue, I had a brewing water test done by Ward labs. Would you think I'd be getting an off flavor based on the water results? What recommendations would you suggest? Thanks for...

    Need help/suggestions with gas fittings.

Gas leaks from where the nail is pointed at. I don't know the proper fittings but these don't look them to me. The brass fitting attached to the gas line has this inner part that has some play back and forth within the larger fitting surrounding it. The inside piece does not seat into...

    Need help/suggestions with gas fittings.

I'm not sure the guy that put this thing together didn't screw that up. There are some rigged up things with this. Finally trying to fix them.

    Need help/suggestions with gas fittings.

I found bg14 marked on it. So, a banjo burner from bayou classic, right? I'm trying to find the orifices for it. I wonder why the ones it came with don't fit.

    Need help/suggestions with gas fittings.

The threads on the burner and the line do not match. The 90 degree that you see is not the right size, nor thread count perhaps. I'm not sure what even threads the burner has. I'll be poking around for that info.

    Need help/suggestions with gas fittings.

I bought this rig from someone who half assed it in places. I get to deal with all of that... Anyway, this is currently a huge fire hazard. I have been brewing before when the fitting popped out and became a flame thrower. The fitting simply pushes in. It never did screw in correctly. What...

General advice needed(regarding new to me brew rig)

I paid 1200 for it all. I can't tell you if that's a good deal, or not. If I had built it, things would be different, but I didn't have the time necessary to research and build from scratch.

General advice needed(regarding new to me brew rig)

I'm looking to extend longevity of pumps. I'm not sure how long these things usually go for. Is that generally how things are done with the controllers? Just run the power through the stc to switch on pumps? I'll be lurking on some of the controller threads for a bit.

General advice needed(regarding new to me brew rig)

I could. But then I'd have to sit there and watch it for an hour. Was hoping to "set it and forget it", giving me an hour to do whatever else I wanted(without having the pump running continuously for that hour). Do you know if I can run the pump power through the 2 stc controllers? Or...

General advice needed(regarding new to me brew rig)

Not sure if that's good or bad. :p Yeah, probably other things I'll discover along the way that I can improve. Idk myself. That's why I made the post! :fro: I agree with the time issue. I haven't even used it yet but was doing some cleaning as the previous owner didn't do a thorough...

General advice needed(regarding new to me brew rig)

I've been brewing 5 1/2 years using the very simple cooler mash tun, boil kettle method a lot of us started with. Has served me well but I wanted to upgrade to some automation and less lifting on the cheap. Didn't have time to build a new setup from scratch and this deal came along so I jumped...

Been lazy, hops are in piles.

I've never had a good harvest on my hops and I've been following the same routine. Let the first shoots grow, trim all the others. Have been seeing some people(all?) benefit from cutting first growth, and allowing the second round to be the producers. I know that's partially for timing the...

Going to try cider again. Does this look ok?

I considered doing a little extra on these like hopping, oaking, etc., but decided to keep it simple.

Going to try cider again. Does this look ok?

Yeah, that's what I'll do. One can of concentrate should do it?

Going to try cider again. Does this look ok?

I don't know what constitutes "real" cider other than fermented apple juice. I will be kegging this but adding a gallon of unfermented juice might be the ticket.

Going to try cider again. Does this look ok?

I've made cider in 1 gallon batches with ok success. Never got the really apple-y flavor. This time around I want to go 5 gallons. A friend of mine made a cyser (a LOT of honey and brown sugar, and 50 cinnamon sticks!) It actually turned out ok, but I want a lower abv version. Here's what...

Is this BeerSmith calculation correct? (infusion temp)

Is adding water that hot, bad? Seems like I'd be sacrificing some efficiency. Maybe I am and that is just the nature of the beast when working with a cooler mash tun. Thanks

Is this BeerSmith calculation correct? (infusion temp)

I'm entering all my data in for my hefe brew and going to try a step mash. 113 for 30 minutes 9.9 qts water 156 for 30 minutes 10 qts water 168 mash out When I enter the details, BS gives me an error on the second step saying I need to add more water so that my infusion temp isn't over...
