Thread about saving yeast from your starter?

Interesting. I've been boiling my mason jars to store my "overbuilt" yeast for years, each time wondering, "Do I really need to be doing this...?"

    Crazy low efficiency

I'm surprised that in three pages, no one has mentioned the biggest potential culprit in this whole discussion... When's the last time you calibrated your thermometers? As I was starting to homebrew, I slowly watched my efficiencies plummet until they reached the low 60's as you've seen. It...

Keezer collar - bulkhead fitting for gas?

Well, thanks to @day_trippr I've now given Chi Company a solid $200 or so, buying all kinds of crap I probably didn't need. :) Seriously though they have EVERYTHING! I started buying items just because I thought it might be a good idea to have them on hand!

Keezer collar - bulkhead fitting for gas?

@day_trippr - dare I ask what the data connector is for? :) Looks pretty bad-ass!

Keezer collar - bulkhead fitting for gas?

Wow - I really like that idea! What's even better is I've been trying to figure out how to attach ball-lock posts to the end of a hose for cleaning multiple beer lines at once - I'm going to have to grab a couple of these cornelius keg posts! Thanks guys!

Keezer collar - bulkhead fitting for gas?

HAH - you da man. I like the idea of using the existing threaded fittings and not needing a ton of adapters with brass threaded pipe or something like that. Ordered. Thanks. :)

Keezer collar - bulkhead fitting for gas?

Hey all, I'm building yet another keezer collar project but I have a specific question that I need help with. I want the CO2 tank to sit outside the keezer and run through the backside of the collar. I want to do this with some sort of bulkhead fitting that will allow for a valve on the...

My first mead: A tutorial of Mistakes.

I'm brewing my 4th batch of mead using the TOSNA method (meadmaderight.com) My fermentation has been extremely active and while it still has a while to go, the flavor has been great so far. Going to wait until finished then knock out the yeast (probably with heat-pasteurization) and...

    Cucumber in beer?

Ya know, the biggest problem with this website sometimes is finding a thread like this that never ends with any real-world results. :) Got some free wheat yeast from a homebrew comp and thinking of doing a cucumber lime beer with some grains of paradise. Was looking for a starting point for...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

HAH! I judged that competition! It's even possible I drank that beer. I believe the DIPA/IPA categories were split between two groups of judges however. Congrats! My beers didn't do so well at AWOG. :)

Need advice on homemade jockey box - you might want to see this...

PS, this link, second paragraph under copper, says I'd be fine using it in a jockey box. https://byo.com/stories/issue/item/1144-metallurgy-for-homebrewers A few paragraphs down it explains the problem with beer stored in copper, but says that using it in a jockey box "should be fine." So I...

Need advice on homemade jockey box - you might want to see this...

I find it interesting that on a site with people doing so many crazy projects, no one seems on board with this... :) I wont be able to do 100 foot of coil in the car - just ain't gonna fit. Each line will get 12 foot tops. As I'll mostly be serving 3-4 ounces at beer fests, it shouldn't be a...

Need advice on homemade jockey box - you might want to see this...

Well yes, it'll be a few hundred. I'm going to try to keep it from being a LOT of hundreds of dollars... :-) Nice thing is, my work "status" might get me some pretty neat custom parts... ...for free. May have sourced a stainless steel, custom cut panel for the tap handles at no cost...

Need advice on homemade jockey box - you might want to see this...

It's taken me three weeks of nagging a Craigslist seller, but I finally went and picked up this little gem just the other day: That's a 16V "Kid Trax" SRT Viper ride-on car for kids. It doesn't run, and it only cost me $20 bucks. I'm going to cut the car in half, width-wise, just...

    Show Us Your Label

Been quite a while since I got to check this thread. Also been a while since I made some labels! This year I'm switching to a 5x3" label and moving away from the little neck sticker I used to work with. It always became an afterthought and hardly ever printed like I wanted it to. So that...

    Reviews on Millar's Barley Mill?

I agree except for the "extracting tannin flavors" part - how would extra sparges extract tannins? Still - how do you explain the math? I've read the three-part series on efficiency on HBT. My numbers are consistently higher than the chart in section 3. From what I can gather, the answer lies...

Am I really understanding decoction correctly?!

I'd say yes - you can decoct anything. I've also done the quick draw-boil-return for the point of grabbing a few extra degrees. For bocks, it's a style thing, and a good judge like my buddy can pick up on it (lol - at least he said he did!) Any beer that should taste "malty" would benefit...

Having Frequent Problems with Overcarbed Bottles...

Just an update here - I picked up a nice finishing hydrometer and a smaller test tube and a thief. I've been taking some final readings with both the hydrometer and the refractometer. I use an app called "BrixCalc" on iTunes. I don't know if it's on Android or not. I really like the app...

Am I really understanding decoction correctly?!

Just a quick update - got a good buddy/fellow homebrew club member who lives nearby and is a master-certified BJCP judge. I took a sample as I was transferring from Primary to the keg for lagering and brought it to him on Superbowl Sunday. His report; "Damn nice - no off flavors whatsoever...

    Reviews on Millar's Barley Mill?

I did - several times. While I suspect there was a fluke in there somewhere, I haven't brewed a batch below 85 - which was a Dopplebock that I decoction-mashed - since I bought the mill. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
