    Spa panel

I mounted mine right on the rig. It gives me a way of killing power locally. I also don't plan on moving the rig anywhere so flexibility was not a concern.

    stupid ssr question

Same thing got me at first too. I had a couple old SSRs given to me and at first I thought they were bad. I almost threw them out but I figured I would test it with a load and sure enough they worked fine!

    NW Ohio Brewer here

Delaware is pretty neat. It has that old, small town feel. I grew up in Tiffin (20min east of Findlay) and Delaware's downtown reminds me a lot of downtown Tiffin.

Thickness of pot for Kettle mount elements?

I'm lucky enough to have a friend\co-worker that used to be an electrical contractor. I borrowed the punch bits from him. The aluminum was so soft I probably could have used a hole saw to cut through just fine. Put down a little cutting oil and you're good to go...

Thickness of pot for Kettle mount elements?

Mine is the same thickness and I followed what Kal was doing in his build. (http://www.theelectricbrewery.com) My problem wasn't with the thickness of the pot as much as it was the curvature. My 10 gal pot has more of a curve to it than the 15 and 20 gallon pots. I had to basically grind down...

    Clay heavy soil

I would think it's OK. I would dig a MUCH larger hole that what you need and mix in compost, and topsoil. Possibly even replace the clay with new topsoil in the hole. If you do add sand make sure it's coarse sand. I have been reading and they say fine sand has negative effects when trying to...

    Hello from Abingdon, VA

Welcome to the obsession. I spent a few months staying in Abingdon and working in the area last winter (during the couple 10"+ snow storms that hit). Beautiful area when the weather is nice...

    60A Spa Panel Question

The GFCI only protects downstream. The additional spaces in the spa panel are connected to the main bus for the incoming power. If you add a single pole breaker and need it to be GFCI protected then you need to purchase a GFCI breaker.

    SOB's PLC eRIG

Thanks, man. There are little things that some ppl (especially round here) can fret about with my system. Not really that "bad" but wanted to put it out there before a huge discussion started. Plus, you gotta mind the "Dooty" cycle...you never know when it's coming back around!

PICs\Info please! This sounds pretty awesome... :rockin:

    SOB's PLC eRIG

So I upgraded to an eBK using a lot of info from the Kal build. I did my wet test today with the first brew tomorrow. Below are pics and the list of "freebies" from various friends, co-workers and vendors. HMI control is using FTViewME on my laptop which will eventually (hopefully) be on a...

Growing hops in planters. Any advice?`

No, a pan underneath does not defeat the purpose. The purpose of the holes are for any extra water to run out and not rot the roots with too much water. The pan will fill up and can be dumped (away from the guy below) and not cause any damage to the root system. Coming from a guy that lived...

    Anyone using PLC's?

I built mine with an AB SLC500 that was given to me. I actually just did my wet test today and will be brewing for the first time tomorrow. I'll be posting the pics shortly...I'll link to the thread when I'm done. A PLC is overkill (if you ask me) but when it's free and is what you do for a...

    SSR Interference

All I did was drill holes for the screws and mounted them on the enclosure with thermal paste on each side of the enclosure. These are actually "20A rated" heatsinks and I have no problems using them on my 40A SSRs. I think the enclosure actually helps with the heat dissipation. If you are...
