    Yeast starter

I didn't put it in the refrigerator. It has been in my bathtub at about 76 degrees. Would that make a difference?

    Yeast starter

I made a starter with Wyeast 1056 last Thursday, but didn't get to brew on Saturday. I plan on brewing this Saturday. Should I make another starter with new yeast, or will the week old starter be ok?

    Pots & Burners

I bought a 10 gallon SS kettle and lid from http://www.kitchenfantasy.com/shopping_cart/stockpots.html for $79.99 plus shipping. I haven't used it yet, but it seems to be the same quality as those I looked in a restaurant supply store for $200+.

Should I scale down boil time when I scale down a recipe?

I'd like to get to the piont that I could formulate my own recipes. I just wanted to experiment with different ingredients without having to buy enough for 5 gallons and have it turn out bad. I'm choking down 2 cases of bad beer now, but since I made it I'm going to drink it.

Should I scale down boil time when I scale down a recipe?

I want to experiment with some different recipes with smaller volumes. I'm thinking of brewing 1 gallon batches before moving to 5 gallon batches. The recipe is a partial boil. Scaling the partial boil volume down results in less than 1 gallon boil volume. Should I still boil my wort for 60...

Should I refill my CO2 tank

Now I remember him saying that it had a siphon tube. I didn't know what that was at the time. I'll see if I can exchange it for a different tank. It's a good thing my regulator and kegs didn't come in yesterday.

Should I refill my CO2 tank

I will check with him, but I'm pretty sure that it is only CO2. Thanks for the quick responses.

Should I refill my CO2 tank

I'm going to pick it up this week. I don't think he has a gauge on it, so I'm relying on what he is telling me. When I receive my regulator I see how much is left. He was saying that there was a different type of CO2 in the tank. I was only aware of one type.

Should I refill my CO2 tank

A friend gave me a 20# tank that he was using to fill paintball canisters. It still has some gas in it. He said that I would need to have it refilled if I was going to use it to dispense beer. Does this sound right? I just don't want to ruin my first kegging experience.

    When to bottle?

What is the temperature? If it is cool, you can try moving it to a warmer area.

    When to bottle?

The same thing happened on my last batch. You might want to try rousing the yeast that has fallen to the bottom. I did that but the gravity readings didn't change. Since the FG was the same for 2-3 days I bottled. It's been in the bottle for 2 weeks with no problems. Tastes pretty good so far.

    Finally I can relax

It is an Irish Red Ale. The ingredients came with a kit that I got for Christmas. Unfortunately it didn't come with a recipe, just an ingredients list. I just used everything and got lucky.

    Finally I can relax

After 8 weeks of worrying I can finally relax. My first batch is ready to be enjoyed. The taste has mellowed dramatically this last week in the bottle. I was concerned that it was going to be too bitter. Now I realize that I was tasting green beer. This addiction rocks!!!! :rockin:

Grab a thermometer and hydrometer if you don't already have one. The Complete Joy of Home Brewing by Charlie Papazian is a good item to have.

    Close Enough to Target Gravity?

I moved it to another room and the temperature has been between 65-67F. I checked the gravity this morning and it dropped to 1.016. I'll probably leave it for a few more days if the gravity doesn't fall any further. Am I close enough to the expected range of 1.010 and 1.012 to rack to...
