    Starting Over

I just logged on for the first time in over a year myself. Made a beer last winter, but nothing since. My shiny Kal clone electric brewery is very dusty. I'm getting ingredients tomorrow for a friday brew day, can't wait. One thing I did was disassemble all my ball valves, pumps, cooler,etc...

    Kegs on boats?

Those are really cool. Totally agree on the not getting hammered part, it's just plain dangerous. Every year there is at least one boat who drives right into the pier and booze is always involved. CG is cracking down on BWI's now too.

    Kegs on boats?

I didnt even think of the foam, that makes sense. The other concern would be stirring up sediment. I'm thinking I'd have to crash in a 5G and rack off the top to the other keg. Soda bottles sound way easier.

    Kegs on boats?

Hey all, wondering if anyone has managed to transplant a kegging setup onto a boat? I've been trying to work through my head how we could bring homebrew kegs aboard and have them on tap. Not necessarily a fancy permanent install. I'm thinking the 2.5G kegs would be perfect and should fit in...

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

And one of the whole trellis for perspective. The trellis is about 8 ft tall. The other bed has tomatoes, basil and chiles mostly. Habaneros, jalapeños, and a Carolina reaper. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

Here's another couple shots of my first year cascades. Horizontal growing is a pain in the ass during the initial growth but really cool once cones appear. Hopefully next year they go all the way across. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    First shot at lager, underpitched

Preboil was about 13 gallons, 11 into fermenters. Efficiency was 93%. I may have just misread expected attenuation. Either way, I think Ill stand a better chance of having a better beer by not touching it rather than adding more yeast. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    First shot at lager, underpitched

Mash is definitely correct, I have a full kal clone and calibrate them every brew. It was wlp830 (white labs german lager) I guess 1.008 was just theoretical, it's the german pils from brewing classic styles. I calculate apparent attenuation at about 72 right now. SG was 1.048. I've read 830...

    First shot at lager, underpitched

I tried my first hand at a simple pils using german lager yeast. I believe I underpitched simply because I decanted the starter without really letting it settle out long enough, either way... I raised the temp after 3 weeks at 50* to 62 for a d-rest and it dropped another few points to 1.013...

    Off taste after gelatin

I guess my point was that normally gelatin will coagulate and drop making the first pint or two clumpy and cloudy. The following pulls are typically clear and free of off flavors, but this time around the last 4 pints are just cloudy and nasty tasting. I measured the temp of the beer coming...

    Off taste after gelatin

I've been kegging for a few years and have found something recently that I fear may have ruined my st pattys irish red Sometimes I gelatin clear the primary with fantastic results but this time around I added it to a cold keg. It's been a day and although it hasn't dropped clear yet the beer...

    Aging a Barleywine

I definitely prefer the taste of barleywine over mead, but we do like oaked red wines just as much. Thanks for all the good ideas on the oxidation remedies. I'll have to think about this for a big before making a decision.

    Aging a Barleywine

corks are not necessarily a requirement, but we have a corker and I figured they would hold up the longest. I like the idea of the wax tops, we're going to be doing that for the 12oz favors we're handing out as well. It will help discourage people from drinking them at the reception (Casino...

    Aging a Barleywine

Hey all, I'm getting married in august and as part of the reception we want to have a bottle of booze on each table for guests to sign. This will mean 20 bottles, and the plan would be to drink one a year for 20 years. While we both like wine, we're really beer people (engagement photos...

    New Basement Build

Haha not single. Fiancé who bought my first beer kit, so she's to blame for the start of this sickness The tables were just improv as I went. I'll be glad to take some measurements for you if you want, I think I have the cad drawing still as well. It makes for a functional space while still...
