I am going to brew Gordon Strong's NE IPA from the latest issue of BYO. He says to mash with 5 gallons of water, then fly sparge until 6.5 gallons is collected. I batch sparge, should I make any adjustments? Thanks!
That pickup looks great. Your TC is a 1.5 inch that is 2 inches from the bottom to the center of the TC, correct? Any idea on how much wort will be left in the kettle with that pickup?
Any plans to use a false bottom? When you recirculate the mash are you using your whirlpool attachment? Will it recirculate through the bag?
Also please post pictures of your pickup when you receive it, thanks!
Looks great. I am thinking about ordering a custom Spike kettle myself so it was nice to see what the construction is like.
Am I misunderstanding or are you trying to run a 5500w element on the 120v ez boil?
So I just found this thread and the original schematics that PJ provided are no longer available. If someone happens to have them can you repost them? Thanks!
Yeah I ended up ordering the heat sink below, I think it's going to make for a nicer install.

Any ideas on how to mount a SSR inside the PVC box with the heat sink on the outside? I have seen people cut a slot down the side of the box and slide the heat sink down the slot like in the picture below. I was trying to think of a better way to do this but maybe I just need to cut a slot...
No the quantities are the same because the LME contains some water, so it will be heavier for the same amount of sugar. But yes you can use either for a starter.
