    Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout sludge?

I have made this same recipe several times and this has never happened. I had it in my secondary for about two weeks and then a weird white colored film started to form. This was also about two weeks after adding the 8 oz. of all natural peanut butter and 8 oz. of cocoa nibs. There was no weird...

    fermentation time

Is it possible to leave a beer in the primary for too long? If I leave it in there for a little over two months, is that going to cause an issue? Thanks, Nick

    Science Experiment with yeast

I want to do a science experiment with my kids this weekend and I was thinking about using some cheap yeast to show how different types of sugars ferment or do not ferment. I didn't see anything that had a break down of the different types of sugars and how yeast would interact. Is there already...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Magic Hat beers. I live in KY/TN and it is everywhere. I was excited to find a new beer at first but man it was awful. Especially the not quite pale ale. Horrible...Anyone else ever had it? Explain why it is so off tasting please. - nick

    Recipe conversion

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could run something through beer smith for me. I made this extract once and it turned out pretty good. I want to try it all grain. I am overseas and away from beer smith right now but I need to place the order as soon as possible to be ready for my return. 9...

    Palm sugar

From the reading that I have done it seems that it is 70% sucrose. I am not sure if that is completely accurate. Is fructose ok to brew with? I see a lot of sucrose being used. - Nick

    Palm sugar

I am wondering if anyone has tried using palm sugar as a substitute for Belgian candi sugar. I was trying to figure out what kind of sugar the palm sugar was and I found this chart of nutritional values. I was assuming that palm sugar was only sucrose but it seems to have a little more than...

    different color PVC

Hey guys, I just made a pick up filter with some PVC fittings and the only ones that were the right size for what I needed were grey PVC. They were still in the plumbing section and are used with drinking water so I assumed it would be ok. Does anyone here know of any issues with grey PVC...

    Auto Sparge placement

Looking at the sparge arm again, I do not think that this will be as big of a deal since it is adjustable. The only issue that I am having with this 60 QT ice cube cooler is that the angle of the existing drain plug causes a lot of water to be left behind. I was looking at the way that some...

    Auto Sparge placement

I am about to install an auto sparge on a 60 QT cube cooler and I was wondering where I should install the auto sparge. I would like to be able to bounce back and forth from 5 and 10 gallon batches but I am afraid that if installed to high it would not work for my 5 gallon batches and if too low...

Moving on up to All Grain

Alrighty guys, I am taking the step up to all grain brewing. I thought that I had a good handle on what to do but now that I am just about to do it, I am a little confused. I have a 5 gallon kettle but a 15 gallon enroute (not available just yet), and a cooler with an auto sparge attachment...

    first time kegging tonight

I have watched a couple of videos online and I am still a little confused about a couple of details. I have heard that after the transfer that the keg should be kept in lower temps so that the beer absorbs the CO2. I watched one video where the guy sat the keg on its side, rolled it around and...

    Co2

I am trying to find a place that does CO2 refills in my area. Tractor supply has a CO2 mix for welding. Is that the same? Forgive my ignorance, I just bought the Kegging kit and I am on the road now. Thanks, Nick

    thoughts on an IPA

Just cracked some of these open last night. Super bitter and very high alcohol content. I was pretty buzzed after just two. Smell was great, very hoppy...but the hoppiness didn't come out in the taste. Not a bad beer, just didn't hit my target. Any suggestions? My thoughts..... Change the hop...

    Kegging for the first time

I am just about to buy a Kegging kit. Is the beer forced carb? Should I wait the three weeks that I usually do when bottle conditioning? Should I age in the primary or in the keg? Do those little corny kegs really hold 5 gallons? Thanks again, Nick

    Looking for an easy conversion

I am using the calculator on the brewmaster warehouse website. What would the OG be with 6 lbs of sorghum, 4 lbs of rice solids and 1 lbs of Belgian candy? Are there any other syrups that would be compatible to up the OG? What would be the problem with using 10 lbs? Thanks, Nick

    Looking for an easy conversion

I was checking out the numbers and instead of an abv of around 9% it turned out to be around 5.5%. what would happen as I I crease the sorghum enough to match the original abv? Nick
