Interesting alternative. If you are very serious I have a hopyard started going into its 3rd year. We grow Cascade, Chinook, Willamette, and Nugget. Let me know more.

    Wtf Nhl!!!!

I say fans unite and Boycott the NHL once things are settled!!! Both sides are there for OUR entertainment but the Greedy Bastards are arguing over how to divide the money WE pay THEM!!! Let them reach a "deal" then take 1 year and purchase zero tickets!!! I'm sure the other major sports...

What to do with a Sanke keg?

I think you need to go to the next level and build a reflux column as the keg would be a super boiler...

Who here is a sloppy home brewer?

If I'm trying for something specific I pretty much stay the course, BUT every March I throw together the Mother Hubbord's Cupboard. It's a brew with any and all leftover grains and malt extracts and hops and other misc that I have from the previous year. Usually it's not bad. A nice spring...

    Graff yeast

I did my first Graff and went with Windsor yeast... Seemed to do a nice job. I just transfered to a secondary and will probably keg it up Monday.

    Coconut Pineapple Beer

This sounds like a perfect project for right after the first of the year. I think I'll try it and call it Cabin Fever Reliever!!! Only thing I'll do differently is toast the coconut and probably cut back a bit on the Pineapple and maybe add some lime zest and juice.

    The Impossible?

I've got a homebrew comp that needs the entries in 3 weeks. If I put it up on Sunday 10/21, can I enter a simple Graff in the competition? Recipe is very basic... 3 gallons cider, 4 lbs DME (amber), 1 oz Cascade, 2 gallons H2O, and Windsor yeast. What do you folks think? DoAble?

    Newer to Ciders

I've been homebrwing for about 15 years and finally came into putting up a cider in early September. Just found a simple recipe for a Graff and was wondering if it was possible to pull this off in a 3 week period? Recipe calls for 3 gallons cider, 4 lbs DME, 1oz loose hops (have Cascade), and...

    Rinse specialty grains?

I say "If it feels good... DO IT!!" I personally dump my adjucts into a fine colendar and rinse them off into the primary prior to tranfering the wort. Never had a problem and it cools the spent grains off before they are fed to my goats. Just my 2cents...

    Quick Question

Is there a 1 to 1 substitution for DME and LME? For example if I was to use 6.6 lbs of LME would I use 6.6 of DME if I did not have the LME? Always wondered...

I apologize for not seeing the other thread on this. Also Pheonixs4r... I'm sorry for the sand that got kicked in your vagina!!! I further more thought this was a good spot to air a grievance on GENERAL BEER DISCUSSION. I am really sorry for not drinking exclusively the beers that I brew...

    Is it just me or...

Are any of you out in HomebrewLand tired of the larger Craft Brewers flooding the market with traditional Seasonal Brews 2-3 months ahead of schedule? I fully understand the Market share/first to the taps, yadda-yadda-yadda...BUT the seasonality of brewing is one of its greatest traits! I'm...

    3rd yr Hallertau Possable useless

Looks like you got infected w/ Powdery or downey mildew and it raised some great Higgly-Piggly with their development. A good prevention measure is to spray early on with a baking soda and water concoction. You'll have to look up the amounts but it's not much. Consider this a learning...

    HopYard Field Day in Massachusetts

Pretty much hit the nail on the head Mr Wrench. We are a young hopyard and we are still trying to flush out the feasability of a larger hopyard. Every time one question is answered another 2-3 are asked. In the end come for the info and a great excuse to visit Central Mass. Pariah- Try to...
