    RYE PA Critique

Makes sense to me. Come to think of it, I just did a black IPA, full of simcoe and cascade, and I used carafa for the color. Worked quite well. As for the rye, I've been using 30% for all my pale ales, with 30-50 IBU, and it's been good for me. Like you said, personal taste. Cheers

    RYE PA Critique

Hey Guys, Was thinking about a rye pa and fiddled around with a new recipie. Normally when I do one it's a simple 2 row/crystal/rye combo, but I wanted to try something different. So I ditched the crystal, and added a small ammt of munich and chocolate for color. Also, the LHBS just got some...

    Dealing with fruit flies

Get some sodium metabisulphite (wine making sanitizer) from the LHBS, mix up the recomended dosage in a sprayer bottle, and lightly coat the top of the bucket. I've been doing this for years and it works fantastically. No bugs in my beer.

    Old Ale w/ 9097

Good call. I might just leave this one, and do a big starter from my buddy's pack, and try to culture some and store it in the freezer for a later time.

    Old Ale w/ 9097

Yah, I've never tried washing. Definitely something i'm going to try sooner rather than later. But the old ale will be a while. It's in the keg right now, and I'm trying to save it until at least the fall. Do you think the yeast will still be good by then?

    Old Ale w/ 9097

Hey guys, Got kind of excited this weekend when I did a sample tasting of the old ale I did up with the 9097 yeast. I did a primary for about 3 weeks, then transfered to a keg and added about 3/4cup of molasses to condition. After 3months of keg conditioning, the brett culture is really...

    Terrapin Brewing

My mom recently took a trip to South Carolina, and I asked her to pick me up a couple of decent micro brews from the area. Being that she has no knowledge of beer at all, I was kind of excited to see what she would get. To my surprise she came back with the Terrapin 12 pack sampler with the Rye...

    Your favorite dry hop?

For the last couple of American IPA's I've done, I flavored with cascade and amarillo, but for a twist, I dry hop with a bunch of SAAZ and Chinook. Neat profile that most don't quite expect. I love the spice of SAAZ Cheers
