    Water mineral additions

I'm new to brewing kombucha (starting my first batch later this week) but I've been fermenting other things for a long time. For beer, I usually start with reverse osmosis (RO) water and adjust the mineral content upwards with gypsum and calcium chloride, plus lactic acid if necessary for the...

    My kegerator

Thanks! I'm pretty proud of it. One thing, I'm really glad I didn't use glue to join any of the pieces on this build, as I recently moved across the country (MA -> CO). I was able to quite easily disassemble the whole thing before the movers touched it and reassemble it after the move. I...

    My kegerator

I don't recall the exact specs, but they were tailored to my build based on the exact dimensions and the weight of the lid. I called the sales dept of the gas spring company and after explaining what a kegerator was and what I wanted to do with the springs, they asked for pictures/diagrams of...

    Zythos Hops?

From here: http://www.butlerwinery.com/PDF/Hop%20descriptions.pdf "A proprietary hop blend created to embody the powerful tradition and aroma you expect from your finest ales and IPA brews. With targeted brewing values of 11.9% alpha and 5.0% beta, ZYTHOS is an IPA style blend created to...

    Zythos Hops?

Oh, and the AA % on the ones I got was 10.9%!

    Zythos Hops?

The guy at my LHBS said they've tried them and are seriously considering replacing Simcoe with Zythos in all of their recipes that call for Simcoe. I'm sure it's mostly due to the lack of Simcoe on the market, but if they consider it a suitable enough replacement, I'm going to give it a try. I...

    My kegerator

No, the fourth keg just squeezes in. I don't think four pin-lock kegs would fit in there.

    My kegerator

I have lots of pictures of various stages of the build process on my Flickr page, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22117429@N08 They're not in any particular order, but I tried to take pics at each major stage. Basically anytime I made significant progress, I snapped a few pics. If you'd...

    My kegerator

Thanks! The unit has 2 inches of airspace on each side. So far the outside of the freezer itself is warm to the touch, but not any more than it would get before I put it inside. The wood of the cabinet is cool, as is the air in the gaps. It doesn't seem to be causing a problem.

    Show us your Kegerator

I finally finished mine and here it is! Key features are: It has four taps, all Perlicks. It has a CO2 regulator for each line. The taps are enclosed in a cabinet. The inside of the door panels are chalk boards. The lid has lift-assist gas springs for easy opening. It has a Love...

    My kegerator

The wood (the wood that shows, anyways) is all red oak stained with Cherrywood gel stain from Minwax. The tiles, including the backsplash, are porcelain and have a nice texture to them. I originally wanted to go with natural stone, but it would have been much heavier and MUCH more expensive...

    Those darn cats...

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I finally finished building this kegerator. Go here for the thread where I show it off. :D https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/my-kegerator-255232/

    My kegerator

Hi everyone, I've been working on this project for about 6 months now and I've been itching to show it off, but I decided to wait until it was done. Well, it's done! Here's my kegerator/keezer: To access the taps, open the small cabinet doors on the tower and you'll see this: The black...

Show me your WOOD! (structure that is) No electric, No pump

This looks really nice. I've always thought about building something like this, but I wasn't sure how concerned I should be about the propane burners being that close to the wood. I don't think the wood underneath the burners is a problem, but what about the wood structure to the right of your...

    Those darn cats...

I hear ya. On one hand they might not be interested at all. On the other hand, they already get into EVERYTHING, so it'd be a bit of a gamble to do the build assuming they'll leave the taps alone. :)

    New guy from MA

Yeah, I get most of my stuff from Jasper's. Ingredients, anyways. Equipment is usually much cheaper online and Jeff's told me flat out he doesn't even try to carry much beyond the basics since everyone has a different brewing setup. It's a great place to find something new and Jeff always has...

    Those darn cats...

I considered tap locks, but they're pretty expensive so I wanted to explore other options. Plus, even if they can't open the taps, I'd rather not have them rubbing up against them, licking the spouts, etc. I don't want to have to clean the taps every time I want to use them... Besides, it...

    Those darn cats...

That is really clever of him! I have a motion-sensing cat deterrent that works kind of like that, but sprays some inert aerosol propellant and makes a bunch of noise in the process. Refills are also a bit expensive. It's called Ssscat. I could put it near the garage door, but they have to...

    New guy from MA

Triple batches! Now that's one way to jump back in head first! I'm right by the Chelmsford/Lowell line, around the corner from Drum Hill.
